Comfort foods serve different purposes for different people and the foods are of different kinds too. My comfort food is something that is soft, has a lot of quantity and has the power to get rid of my migraines. Foods like noodles, bread, thick soft pizza slices and shawarma. I have a habit of stuffing my mouth with these comfort food when I have a migraine or a craving. It might look weird to those who don't know me but to those who know, they know when I need some soft, hot food.
Now, I can't just eat any type of noodles or shawarma to rid me of my migraines. It should be the best one ever (all the time). Before Dubai, my brother and I used to go to our usual road side shawarma guy to get our regular dosage of shawarma, it was tasty but not great. It kept me happy. But when I went to Dubai, I was swept of the ground. It was so good that I had a hard time picking my favourite spot. After a lot of trial and less error, I zeroed in on Reef Demashq as my favourite Shawarma spot. Such a favourite it was that when I was heading to the airport to come back to India, we stopped at Reef Demashq so I could have my last shawarma from there. I came to Cochin, where there were options over options for food and shawarma but nothing kept me happy. My expectations were set differently now. In hindsight, it was a scam they were running in the name of shawarmas. But anyway, fast forward to Halifax, where the international food culture is developing and fast too. Yesterday, on Saturday, Manu and I woke up at 11 AM and in an hour, with sleepy, puffed up faces, we headed straight to a place Manu kept talking about the previous week. To my surprise, it was a cute Syrian run restaurant that served amazing grills and wraps. The shawarma I had sent me straight back to Reef Demashq. It has been three years since Dubai and all I needed was a bite of their Shawarma to send me back to the night i went to Reef Demashq.
, you'll be seeing me more often than you want. Your food was so hot and the warp was so crispy, it kept me hooked to the shawarma till the last bite.
