Yaw Smatamcuks! Hello Friends,
I am being called to step forward and fully share my gifts.
My path has not been easy. I have known addiction to sugar, lived within a poverty mindset, and carried deep grief from the loss of a loved one. Along the way, I also experienced the painful feeling of losing parts of my identity as a Nuxalk Carrier woman. There was a time when I felt mentally unwell, overwhelmed by anger and sadness, and I placed blame outside of myself for the hurt I carried.
Through these challenges, food became my teacher.
I learned that healing begins with the relationships we build especially the one we have with ourselves. When I reflect on my previous business, I see how I believed success meant hustling endlessly, over giving, and undervaluing my work. That way of living left me depleted. I was nourishing my body with excess sugar, wheat, and caffeine, while listening to voices that pulled me further from my truth.
Then I made a sacred decision to reclaim my life.
I turned back to the abundance of our traditional foods and remembered the wisdom stored not only in my pantry, but in my lineage. I chose transformation. I chose to stop spreading myself thin. Today, I live with greater peace, harmony, and intention. I am committed to being the healthiest and most authentic version of myself.
As a Medicine Chef and the heart behind Inner Bark Coaching, my work is rooted in both Indigenous knowledge and the science of food. My studies in Ayurveda over the past five years have expanded my understanding of nourishment and balance. I now cook with deep awareness of the five tastes — sweet, salty, bitter, smoky, pungent, and astringent creating meals that restore balance and warm the heart.
I honor the similarities between Ayurvedic teachings and our Indigenous ways, weaving them together to indigenize recipes that support healing for the body, mind, and spirit.
Today, I stand in my purpose: helping others remember their strength, reclaim their wellness, and heal through food as medicine.
Thank you for witnessing my journey and allowing me to share this work with you.
With respect and gratitude,
Ximana,
