This year has been one of the hardest years ever animal-wise on the farm. It feels like it has been just nonstop trouble, misfortune, and heartbreak. I don’t think a single week has gone by where I haven’t contemplated just selling all of my breeding goats and horses. It has been HARD. 😣

This is so precious to me though.

This little brown doeling whom Hallie named Ellie, lost her mother, but immediately Samara (doe), who had also lost her baby, with absolutely no coaxing from us, adopted her. They are absolutely inseparable and it warms my heart so much to watch them together. 🩷🥹

Last night we saw a sight I hope we never see again. A kid delivered head first right to the shoulders with all four legs stuck straight backwards. 🫣 London was a champ through it all and we were able to deliver all three kids alive. London was up and tending to her babies after just a couple of minutes. Feeling pretty thankful as situations like those don’t always have a happy ending. 🩷💙💙😮‍💨

Right after that Chai got moved into the maternity pen and delivered triplet doelings! 🩷🩷🩷 She’s a first time mama and is doing amazing.

The end is officially in sight. We have 27 kids so far and just a couple more does to go.

I’ve been pretty MIA on this page in the last year so here’s a little life update. Between being pregnant with our third baby, having a C-section, and taking care of our older two kids I had to take a step back for my own sanity and mental health.
The girls all got the year off last year and we bred for our very first winter kidding which we are in the middle of right now. (Big thanks to my hubby who spent a bunch of time cleaning and fixing up and sanitizing the old pig barn to turn into a goat barn. Everybody is comfortable and toasty warm!)
We had a rough start but things are going well now and we have 15 healthy kids on the ground.
We will definitely be retaining a few kids from this crop but there will be several doelings and wethers offered, all without papers. Everything is out of registered stock but unfortunately we had an incident right around breeding time where our bucks got loose with some does that were separated and as a result, we can’t say for sure who the fathers are. While we could DNA test we are choosing to just let them go as unregistered this year. Possibly will be some registered stock available as well once we decide what we are retaining and what will be available.
I will post some photos of does and kids later but I still won’t be quite as active with udder fills and updates and body shots as I have been in previous years.
Hoping next year to be back into the full swing of things. ♥️
