Here’s how we choose our produce at Amaranth 🥕

Whenever we can, we stock two options: low-chemical produce grown right here in Alberta, or a certified organic option. Our goal is to always give you a choice you can feel good about.

We always want to stay local or as close too, which means sometimes it’s not organic but we are mindful that we are still choosing low-chemical farmers when they can’t be certified organic. And when the weather doesn’t give us local, we turn to organic growers elsewhere so you still have a choice you can trust.

Meet lion’s mane: the shaggy, snow-white mushroom that’s about to be your new favorite 🍄

Known for its mild, savory flavor and a texture that’s often compared to crab or lobster, lion’s mane is also popular for its potential brain and nerve health benefits. Early research is promising, and plenty of people love it as part of a focus-friendly routine.

How to cook it fresh:
🔸 Tear or slice into thick “”steaks””
🔸 Dry sauté in a hot pan first to cook off the moisture
🔸 Add butter or oil, salt, and garlic, and cook until golden and crisp at the edges
🔸 Eat as is, pile on toast, toss into pasta, or shape into “”crab”” cakes

Tis’ the season for pumpkin spice 🍂 if you haven’t tried the Pumpkin & Spice sourdough from Homestead Bread YYC, you haven’t experienced the true taste of fall.

We now carry Homestead Bread at our 130th location (and of course at Arbour Lake & Southland) with deliveries on Tuesday & Fridays weekly, so you can always have freshly made sourdough in your kitchen (without having to make it yourself).

We love Homestead Bread because it’s made locally in Calgary with certified organic flour and slow fermentation.

Don’t forget to try their seasonal Pumpkin & Spice and Harvest Apple breads!
