Did you know that every jar of honey starts with flowers? 🐝🍯

Bees travel from bloom to bloom collecting nectar from wildflowers, clover, fruit blossoms, and native plants throughout Southern Alberta. These flowers don’t just create beautiful landscapes — they provide the food bees need to make the raw honey we enjoy every day.

Planting pollinator-friendly flowers in your yard or garden helps support healthy bee populations and strengthens our local ecosystem 🌻

Some bee favourites include:
🌼 Bee Balm
💜 Lavender
🌻 Sunflowers
🌸 Coneflowers
☘️ Clover

Every flower planted makes a difference for pollinators.

What’s your favourite flower to see bloom in spring? 🌷

Behind the scenes at the hive 🍯🐝

Checking the hives is one of the most important parts of beekeeping — and no two days are ever the same. From making sure the queen is healthy and laying, to checking honey stores, brood patterns, and overall hive activity, every inspection helps keep the colony thriving.

Spring and summer are some of the busiest times in the bee yard, and it’s always amazing to see just how hard these girls are working behind the scenes. 💛

Healthy hives = happy bees = delicious local honey 🍯🐝

May is one of the busiest — and most important — times inside the hive 🐝🌸

As the weather warms and flowers begin to bloom across Alberta, the hive comes back to life after a long winter. Spring marks the beginning of the hive cycle, when bees shift into full growth mode.

The queen begins laying thousands of eggs, worker bees get busy collecting pollen and nectar, and the entire colony works together to build strength for the season ahead 🍯

This time of year is all about:
🌼 New brood and baby bees
🌿 Fresh pollen sources
☀️ Longer flying days
🐝 Growing and expanding the colony

Every strong summer hive starts with a healthy spring. May is where the magic begins 💛

Ever wonder what really goes into caring for a hive?

It’s not just about the honey—it’s about checking in on thousands of tiny workers that keep everything running smoothly.

Today’s hive check looked like:
✨ Inspecting frames for healthy brood
👑 Making sure the queen is active and laying
🌼 Checking nectar and pollen stores
🛠️ Watching for signs of stress or disease

Every visit is a balance between staying hands-on and letting the bees do what they do best. A healthy hive is all about consistency, care, and respect for the process.

And while it might look calm from the outside… inside, it’s a full-on working operation 🐝

This is where the magic really starts. 💛

Whipped Honey (Creamed Honey) – Smooth, Spreadable Goodness ✨🍯

If you’ve never tried whipped honey, you’re in for a treat. This rich, velvety spread takes your everyday honey and transforms it into a creamy, buttery texture that’s perfect on toast, baking, or straight off the spoon.

What is whipped honey?
Also known as creamed honey, it’s simply honey that’s been controlled during crystallization to create a smooth, spreadable consistency instead of a hard, grainy one.

What You’ll Need: 🍯
• 1 cup liquid (raw) honey
• 1 tbsp creamed honey (as a “starter”)
• A clean glass jar with a lid

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Start with smooth honey
Make sure your liquid honey is fully melted and clear. If it’s started to crystallize, gently warm it (low heat) until smooth—don’t overheat!

2. Add your starter
Mix in 1 tablespoon of already creamed honey. This helps control the crystallization process and gives you that silky texture.

3. Stir well
Slowly stir the mixture for a few minutes until fully combined. Try not to whip in too much air—keep it smooth.

4. Pour & rest
Transfer into your jar, seal it, and let it sit at room temperature for about 12–24 hours.

5. Cool & set
Move the jar to a cool place (around 10–14°C if possible) and let it set for 1–2 weeks. This is where the magic happens!

How to Enjoy:
Spread it on toast, drizzle over pancakes, mix into coffee, or pair it with cheese boards for a next-level touch.

Pro Tip:
Once set, store your whipped honey at room temperature to keep that perfect creamy consistency.

Smooth. Spreadable. Seriously addictive. 🍯💛

Ever wondered what a day in the life of a worker bee looks like? It’s anything but lazy…

From the moment she emerges, a worker bee gets straight to work—literally. Her entire life (which can be as short as 5–6 weeks in summer) is dedicated to supporting the hive.

✨ Her journey starts inside the hive:
She begins as a cleaner, making sure every cell is spotless for new eggs and honey storage. From there, she becomes a nurse, feeding and caring for developing larvae.

🏗️ Next comes building and maintenance:
She produces wax to build honeycomb, repairs the hive, and even helps regulate temperature by fanning her wings.

🛡️ Then, she takes on guard duty:
Protecting the hive from intruders and ensuring only the right bees enter.

🌸 Finally, she becomes a forager:
The role we know best. She ventures out to collect nectar, pollen, water, and propolis—pollinating plants along the way and helping entire ecosystems thrive.

💛 And here’s the amazing part:
Every drop of honey, every blooming flower, and so much of our food supply depends on these tiny, tireless workers.

Worker bees may be small—but their impact is massive.

Ever wonder how much work goes into a single pound of honey?

It takes nectar from roughly 2 million flowers to produce just ONE pound of honey. 🤯🌸

That means thousands of trips from the hive, miles of flying, and countless hours of work by dedicated worker bees—all for that one jar sitting on your shelf.

It’s a powerful reminder that honey isn’t just sweet… it’s the result of an entire ecosystem working in harmony.

So next time you drizzle honey into your tea or onto your toast, take a moment to appreciate the bees—and the millions of blooms behind every drop. 💛

Happy Earth Day from Bee Boyse Honey 🍯🌎🐝

Today is a reminder that even the smallest creatures make the biggest impact. Bees play a vital role in pollinating the plants that feed our planet, support biodiversity, and keep ecosystems thriving.

At Bee Boyse, we’re proud to support healthy hives and sustainable practices that protect these incredible pollinators. Every jar of honey is a reflection of the hard work happening in the hive—and the health of the environment around it.

This Earth Day, you can help too:
🌼 Plant bee-friendly flowers
🌿 Avoid harmful pesticides
💧 Provide a shallow water source for pollinators
🐝 Support local beekeepers

Together, we can create a healthier planet—one hive at a time.
