Guess who is growing his ear tufts!
Some species of owls have these tufts, called plumicorns, which have nothing to do with hearing. They are actually used for camouflage and communication.

These are busy days at Chassagne as we skirt, wash and air dry fleeces. Apparently we even need to be careful not to throw out the baby with the bath water. You are welcome to visit us by appointment to shop our lovely Shetland fleeces available in eleven recognized colours. If you are the do-it-yourself type you can skirt your fleece at our skirting table located on the porch of the stable overlooking the flock. We also provide a skirting and washing service if you would like to pick out fleeces and have us do all of the prep work. Please email: [email protected] to set up your appointment. We have been shipping fleeces, rovings and yarns across Canada too!

We are preparing to offer several workshops this fall. Come to learn Needle felting from Megan Cleland, a fibre artist from Elora, Ontario who has developed this craft into an art form. She is a masterful needle felter and an excellent teacher whom we have invited to return to Chassagne. You learn the basic skills to be able to needle felt comfortably a two dimensional piece. By the end of the workshop most of your creation will be completed and you'll have so much fun and guidance making it.

It's FLEECE FIESTA! time at Chassagne during the month of July. You are welcome to book an appointment to view and buy our gorgeous Shetland fleeces. It is a banner year for the fleeces, perhaps because we had such an extreme winter that the fleeces grew so much and so well. We also have a porch view skirting table you can use and we offer a fleece washing service. This is a limited time offer as we have exciting plans for our remaining fleeces starting on August 1st. We also have yarns, rovings, batts, knitting kits, and finished woolen items for sale in our shoppe.

Exactly one year ago Sophie and I were meeting with a Prince! We were honoured to show Prince Edward our Chassagne Shetland sheep and products made in Canada from our lovely wool. On every Canada Day I am so grateful to be a citizen of this incredible country. Canadians are known the world over to be kind, modest, accepting of others, sports and outdoor enthusiasts, inventive and good team players. Oh Canada! Our Home and Native Land. I love our flag and proudly display it here and there.

The Eurasian eagle owl, bubo bubo, is one of the largest and most impressive owls in the world. With a wingspan of over 6 feet (2 meters), bright orange eyes, and nearly silent flight, it is a master of the night sky. These powerful birds can hunt a wide variety of prey, from small rodents to rabbits and even other birds. Despite their fierce appearance, Eurasian eagle owls are devoted parents, with many pairs staying together for life and raising their fluffy chicks as a team.
This little fellow is now nearly 1 month old and adult feathers are starting to appear. He will soon be taking his first steps in training to become another advocate for this amazing species!

Sibling rivalry seems to be a universal law of nature. Whether it's two human kids arguing over the last cookie or baby birds jostling for the best spot in the nest, siblings have a special talent for being both best friends and greatest competitors. One minute they're stealing each other's snacks, invading personal space and the next they are napping together or defending each other from the rest of the world. —proving that love and mild annoyance can coexist in perfect harmony.
