Meet “Charlie”. Charlie was not supposed to be red. I knew Trinity’s 4H heifer may be a red carrier, so I selected a homozygous black bull for her breeding. Apparently there is more for me to learn about simmental coat color genetics as there is a genetic variation called “Red Charlie” which negates the function of the dominant black alelle.
