I've been messing with asafoetida!
My hubbies digestive system doesn't handle garlic or onions too well, and we have gotten preeeeety good at cooking without it!
(If I do say so myself 😏)
But sometimes ya just miss those classic flavour profiles that low key dominate North American cooking
So, in comes asafoetida!
It is a potent dried resin that is widely used in Indian and Middle Eastern cooking, and it mimics the flavours of garlic and onions 🌰 🧅
AND, it actually helps to relieve digestive upset
It combats gas/bloating, it stimulates digestions and it is an antispasmodic (can alleviate cramps)
Ill call that a win-win
🤗
So I thought I'd try to make classic garlic shrimp, but with a twist
I fried the shrimp in asafoetida
And made a little cocktail sauce with ketchup, radishes, and pickled parsnips
YUM!
