Two years ago, I started growing and experimenting with microgreens and sprouts in a corner of my house. One day, I brought some to a potluck, and seeing how much people were enjoying them made me think that this could be good for the community. Since moving to Dawson City, I wanted to grow something that would benefit the community I live in. That’s when I decided to start producing microgreens for more than just myself.
Over the past few months, I invested in a dedicated growing unit and renovated it. Now I can produce larger quantities and keep experimenting with different varieties. It is very exciting to be able to experiment and see the variety of greens I will be able to offer in the near and late future.
Last week, I celebrated my first harvest in the new space! There are still adjustments to be made, but I am so happy to be growing and sharing fresh greens again.
This project would not have been possible without the support of Yukon’s Economic Development Funds and Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, as well as the encouragement and guidance from Wendy Morrison of YZed projects in turning this idea into reality. I am also very thankful to my first customers who bought microgreens and gave me feedback. It really made a difference when I was still deciding on taking this leap.
