When the treats are so good you forget where you are and what you're supposed to be doing?

Oh my heart!! This completely made my day! Thanks Rollin' Dough for continuing to show up as the community you want to see ๐Ÿ™Œ

Restock today from Twisted Treasures who's back from holiday and itching to crochet some cute critters for us all! What do we think? More kitties? More chickens? Did you know that she does accept some pre-orders (with deposit of course ๐Ÿ™Œ). I'm waiting for a highland cow myself ๐Ÿฎ

I love these soft little treasures so much...pop by and see what she added!

And be sure to check out the recycled feed bags that she makes into shopping bags! They are super strong and sturdy, perfect for markets, fold up small to tuck away AND it keeps feed bags from going to waste. Win win win!

When you get home exhausted but also need a snack?

Obviously you raid the farmstand for a pretzel to pair with this beautiful honey mustard gifted to us at the market from Mr. G's Bees.

I promise, no honey mustard was wasted in the devouring of this snack (honestly, if I'm not worried about eating my snack off the package, you can bet I'll be up for licking it clean ๐Ÿ˜‚). Highly satisfactory snacking..
Good job bees of Mr G!

Can I also mention how much I love this community's producers? ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ

We had a chance yesterday to stop by Burch Acres farmstand on the way home from the Alberta Beach market and honestly, I just had to share!

This was actually the first farmstand I had the chance to visit in person back in the days when I was researching opening one myself. And, in fact we participated with another wonderful local farmstand (Rollin' Dough !) in a little farmstand tour back in the summer (omg..wait..last summer.. No...Summer before last?!) when farmstands were still a rarity.

Anyhow.. I was inspired by her creativity and attention to detail even then. Everything she puts out is adorable and thoughtfully presented and I even found gladiolas totally matched my outfit!

And seriously, the floral arrangement was so thoughtful yall.. I spent the rest of whole drive home exclaiming over the small details as I discovered them.. The poppy seed head tucked in, the teeny perfect floating white blossoms that floated around that vibrant pink bloom that acts like the sun.. I'm sure she'll claim she just cut a handful and stuffed them in a cup but I recognize that planning and care went into this process all along the way to brighten up my kitchen this morning.

So we came home (already planning our next visit) with a beautiful collection of seeds for my garden, some honey for my tea today, flowers and more flowers, dog hair on my fingers, and such a deep gratitude for the work that is happening all around our community.

Please go check it out if you're in the area.. It's just ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐ŸคŒ

So after a few last minute pivots we've got the stand loaded and we're off to the market (like this little piggie?!).

Losing the use of one of the ovens late Friday night forced us to adapt our menu, so you may notice an absence of a couple signature items, and the addition of some others!

I put out a couple of still warm sandwich loaves, a handful of puffed pastry hand pies..(some each of peach-chamomile and raspberry-hibiscus flavors), along with a few packages of Garlic Parmesan Cruffins (omg so good with soup ๐Ÿ˜‹ ), another load of that road trip snack mix you guys can't seem to get enough of. Oh and bunches of classic sourdough pretzels too!

I'll admit y'all.. I was struggling hard without the oven. I spent too much time yesterday trying to drum up some inspiration for a no bake treat that was up to my standards..(I was in love with my original menu of course..). Eventually I came up with this ridiculous apple c***r caramel and roasted marshmallow rice krispie square and don't let the simple appearance fool you... It's a sticky, gooey, punchy and decadent indulgence ๐ŸคŒ I brought some samples along, but truthfully there are not as many traveling with us as I initially cut. Also unrelated... My dress feels a bit snugger than I recall ๐Ÿคท

Anyhow.. Pop by the farmstand if you are passing by or come say hi at the Alberta Beach Farmers' Market from 1130 to 3. We have less bread today, but still tons to browse through and there are so many cool vendors to check out ๐Ÿ˜˜

A moment of silence today for our OG Brown Hen. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ”

When we first moved here, we had never owned chickens. knew almost nothing about them, wasnโ€™t even sure we liked them other than soaked in buttermilk and fried with coleslaw. But from the moment I stepped out of our car here on the day we first looked at the property, I was called to get a chicken or ninety.

Thus, immediately after moving in and before I'd even so much as unpacked our clothes, I found a lady on Marketplace selling three chickens, came home from her house that day with five and the rest is history, I guess.

OG Brown Hen was the last remaining member of that very first mini flock. She quietly passed in her sleep last night, an old lady surrounded by the rest of the flock we've built since she inspired us.

She brought home scaly leg mites (which I got to learn about treating in the dead of winter our first year homesteading) and I don't think she ever laid an egg. But...

She survived all my beginner mistakes, those god awful mites, and that first winter here where the temps dropped below minus 50, we lost power and had no water for several days.

She helped inspire my genuine love of chickens, and really, every egg weโ€™ve ever sold from this farmstand can be traced back to that original little flock and how much I LOVED being with them.

Thank you, OG Brown Hen, for your years of service and for letting me learn on you. You were a good chicken. โค๏ธ
