Our sweet potatoes didn’t do well this year… maybe a meal for one 🫣
We have a mouser now! Quynn has been relentless about some creatures living in our garden and taking advantage of the buffet. She finally caught one!
Seems to me that tomatoes don’t know that it is October 🤷‍♀️ a fallen tomato sprouted every seed(Brandywine)! So now what?! It breaks my hearts that i can’t keep them. I may try a couple but not sure how successful I will be with them in side.

Work has been nuts but so is taking care of our harvest. Canning became main activity on weekends to make sure our harvest isn’t wasted. No shortage of tomatoes even though some weren’t perfect with all these rain. Pasta sauce, salsa and tomato soups. Still have a couple dozen pounds in the freezer 🤣

Another busy weekend of canning. So many tomatoes that our big sauce pot hasn’t had a break in weeks, neither is the canner. 10 jars of salsa, 4 jars of peppers in tomato sauce, 3 jars of beef (first time canning beef, lost one jar but at least gave us a chance to try it - yummy!).
Harvested the rest of potatoes while dogs were hunting for the creature that used out potato and carrot patches as their personal buffet. And Wh**ky did find that mouse, somehow he didn’t eat it 🤷‍♀️ Damaged potatoes turned into frozen hash-browns, first time doing it so will see.
Harvested one of our giant sunflowers to have seeds for next year.
Our mystery gourd growing from our compost pile… funny, I don’t remember throwing out any gourds… but that doesn’t mean I didn’t haha
This year I am even trying my hand is preserving some wild mushrooms, just dehydrated them because we didn’t have time to eat them.

Tomatoes never stop! Another batch of tomato sauce - 5 litres and a little bit. Also canned some peaches, dehydrated some mushrooms. Black trumpets were for supper. We also harvested two of our roosters, it was their time. And had a change of guard in the coop. Unfortunately, our beautiful boy Sage passed away. He was the best rooster, so gentle with the ladies, great protector, and so friendly with us. We will miss you Sage!

Another 24 lb before more rain, and of cause more basil to make more pasta sauce.

Salsa day! 12 lb of tomatoes, 4 red peppers (we didn’t have any green ones and superstore had a box of peppers for $16 so we had those), three onion, all the garlic and cilantro. 4 litters or 8 pint jar. Have probably about 40-50 more pounds of tomatoes to go 😳 good thing it is a long weekend.

Tomatoes are starting! Crazy amount of basil this year, a few little cucumbers and jalapeno.
Garlic and onions are also from our garden.
First batch of tomato sauce is about to commence.

Very proud of our sunflowers this year, about 11 feet tall, thick as a tree too!
We picked some potatoes before the rain, not great from two rows… and all scabby. So will have to preserve them instead of trying to save for the winter. But our onions did well this year, these are only about half of what we have. A few still on the smaller side so we left them in the ground for now.
