Aneto Wines - Back in Stock with New Vintages:
The Douro is an arresting site. It is truly one of the most spectacular wine regions; the steepness, the slopes, the meandering river, the terraces. It is remarkable. When making the drive from Porto to the wine region, one of the first towns along the way, in the the Baixo Corgo, is Peso do Regua. It is here that the Aneto winery is tucked away on a hillside overlooking the Douro only about 90 minutes from the centre of Porto (an easy visit if you are ever in the neighbourhood - let me know).
Generations spent in the Douro Valley:
After a successful career at Quinta Noval Francisco Montenegro decided to not only continue selling the family grapes to port houses as had been done since the late 1800s, but to start crafting his own wines from the very best fruit found in the family's collection of vineyards. In the early 2000s he began with Aneto's first vintage being 2002 . Unlike much of the rest of the Douro the focus is not on fortified wines, but on imminently drinkable table wines.
Refinement Found:
The vineyards are found in three areas. The white grapes are in Quinta do Estremadouro, PenajĂłia, a transition region for green wines, with a Mediterranean-Atlantic climate and whose soils are a mixture of granite and shale. The varieties are: Semillon, Verdelho, Viosinho, Gouveio, Cerceal, Encruzado and Alvarinho.
The red plantings come from the parish of Castedo do Douro, on the site of Sobradais and MalvĂŞdos, with the Douro river bank, where we have 7 ha of adult vineyard. With Mediterranean climate and schistous soils with outcrops of clay. The planted varieties are: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto CĂŁo and SouzĂŁo.
The Pinot Noir grapes come from the parish of BarrĂ´, in the Place of Pardelhas. At elevated altitude (450 meters), Atlantic climate and granite soils with some limestone. It is from these 2 ha, already planted by us, that we produce the grapes for the varietal and sparkling Pinot Noir.
On Offer:
Aneto Rosado 2023
#893219 6 x 750ml
A blend of 50% Touriga Nacional and 50% Touriga Franca, hand harvested and fermented at cool temperatures to best express the vibrant fruit purity. Lifted on the palate for easy enjoyment but structured enough to be a worthy companion to the grilled dishes of summer.
Aneto Tinto 2021
#893213 6 x 750ml
Comprised of the classic Douro mix of grapes the Aneto Tinto is Touriga National, Touriga Franca, Tinta Cao and Tinta Roriz. Refined and structured with lots of floral and red fruit aromatics this is a decidedly elegant representation of the Douro. Predominantly neutral oak is used to allow the quality of fruit to shine. A nuanced and enjoyable wine that is a pleasure to drink.
Aneto Pinot Noir 2022
#893223 6 x 750ml
100% Pinot noir from a north-facing slope of 450 metres elevation with granite and schist soils. While it is not expected to find Pinot noir in the Douro Valley, when planted to the correct site and with skilled vineyard management ethereal and elegant Pinot noir can be crafted. Red berries, savoury herbal aromatics and subtle anisette make for an interesting and nuanced representation of classic Pinot Noir found in a decidedly non-classic location.
