Back in the butter room and it feels SO good! 🧈🌿
Life got full — a wedding, painting the house, nesting and settling into a new season. But my son Eli reminded me the other day that I hadn't made butter in forever and honestly that was all I needed to hear.
Hope our Jersey girl is giving us over 7 gallons a day right now which means I am absolutely swimming in cream again. Pure gold. 🐄
This is fermented butter — which means before I churn it I let the cream clabber first. Fermented butter has natural probiotics and a deeper more complex flavour than regular butter. It's honestly in a league of its own.
And nothing goes to waste around here — the fermented buttermilk leftover from churning goes straight to the pigs. Happy pigs, incredible butter, zero waste. That's the farm way. 🐷
Yes — that video of me plugging the butter churn back in with soapy water still in it? Working smarter not harder. The churn cleans itself while I do something else. Farm efficiency at its finest. 😄

Where have I been? Right here — doing what matters most. 🌿
Our girl Cheyanna married her Kenzo on August 16th surrounded by family, laughter, sunflowers and more food than any of us could eat.
We cooked from scratch. We hauled water every single day to keep that yard green — our well ran dry and we refused to let it show. We cried. We laughed. We stayed up way too late. And then we slept for a week. 😄
Some seasons are just about the people you love most. This was one of them.

🐄 Surprise arrival on the farm yesterday morning — meet Franklin! 🐄
We weren't expecting company today, but Franklin had other plans. Mama did all the work fast — this calf hit the ground and was up on his feet almost right away, bright-eyed and ready to go. That kind of vigor is a good sign right out of the gate.
Once he was cleaned up, the boys loaded him into the apple bin on the tractor and brought him up close to the house so we can keep a close eye on him and make sure he's getting all the colostrum he needs in these first critical hours. Being fruitful and multiplying, one calf at a time. 🖤
