Clos du Soleil Winery

Clos du Soleil Winery Clos du Soleil is a small artisan winery and estate vineyard in the Similkameen Valley, BC.

Clos du Soleil is a small artisan winery and estate vineyard on the Upper Bench of the South Similkameen Valley, in British Columbia, Canada. We produce ultra-premium quality wines, borrowing an aesthetic derived from the great wines of Bordeaux, but stamped with the flavours and aromas of our particular piece of rocky Similkameen land. Through traditional winemaking techniques, informed by resear

ch, but adhering to the philosophies of minimal-interventionist winemaking and biodynamic viticulture, we produce wines that are complex and classic, ageable and elegant.

My complaint? We don’t get enough White Bordeaux in our market and if we do the best bottles are well beyond our reach in terms of price. Know what I mean?

What is a white bordeaux, you ask? It’s a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon generally with a little Muscadelle from the vineyards of Pessac-Léognan, Graves, Sauternes (late harvest). Some of Bordeaux’s most famous and expensive wines are made of this. Who am I to disagree???

When you think of benchmark white blends in British Columbia, Capella sits in a league of its own. Michael Clark is inspired by the great whites of Bordeaux and produces his own distinctive classic from vines rooted entirely in the rocky, sun-baked soils of the Similkameen Valley.

The first time I heard about Capella, I was working at Liberty Wine Merchants Park Royal. The story goes, the 2013 Capella from Clos du Soleil Winery was selected to be served to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during the grand reopening events of Canada House in London. Tuck that in your fun facts about BC Wine. Then go get a bottle. Or two.

Feeling a little sad that September is here? We get it.

The days are getting shorter, the heat is starting to wane, and your local lake is starting to feel just a smidge chilly! But that doesn’t mean you have to give up that summer feeling just yet.

Because Clos du Soleil Fumé Blanc is essentially the Similkameen summer in every sip...

Think ripe lemon, juicy grapefruit, passionfruit, guava and pineapple, with floral lilac, a touch of beeswax and the faintest hint of oak. Crisp, dry and beautifully refreshing, with a lovely mineral salinity to keep it uniquely Clos du Soleil.

Plus, did you know that this "summer in a bottle" recently earned Best in Class at the 2026 Culinaire Magazine Alberta Beverage Awards? 🏆

Open a bottle. Close your eyes. Take a sip. You're back in full summer mode.

Tyson of Cork and Spine always has the best taste! So delighted to be included in his latest roundup of 'Wines on his radar,' with this review of Syrah 2022: "This was one of the best reds I’ve had…wow!! It has black plum and cherry with pepper, smoky notes. It’s giving FULL BODY and full balance. $39-ish and perfect to pick up and impress at a dinner party."

It's quite the most tantalizing list - check out the full lineup via Cork and Spine on Instagram.

A case for drinking the good wine on a random Monday.

Because honestly, why are we saving the good stuff for “a special occasion”?

Tuesday takeout. Wine Wednesday dinner. Thursday patio session. Or a completely unremarkable Monday that deserves to feel a little less… Monday.

May we suggest Célestiale 2022?

Our Bordeaux blend is soft and layered, with ripe raspberry, blackberry and pomegranate, subtle notes of forest undergrowth and spice, and plenty of juicy freshness. Elegant enough for a celebration, approachable enough for pizza night.

And, as if you needed another reason: Célestiale 2022 is a Silver Award winner at the 2026 WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada. 🥈

Did you know our winemaker, Michael Clark, originally trained in Theoretical Physics before turning his lifelong obsession with wine into his day (and sometimes night!) job? Now you do!

It might seem like an unexpected path from physics to winemaking, but when you think about it, it makes perfect sense: winemaking is part science, part art, part natural magic, plus a whole lot of curiosity, creativity and intuition. Mike’s background in physics gives him a unique perspective on the technical side of wine, while his passion for wine keeps him endlessly curious about what’s happening in the vineyard and cellar.

At Clos du Soleil, all of this combines and is applied to every vintage and every decision, with a focus on expressing the character of our vineyards and the unique terroir of the Similkameen Valley.

So, while the finished bottle may look effortless, remember that every wine has a story of people, place, science, patience and hard work behind it, all driven by Mike's amazing mind!
