This weekend, we gathered at Cavendish Community Food Hub for a Sunrise Ceremony in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡

We’re grateful for the opportunity to come together, from the littlest among us to the oldest, to listen, learn and share in ceremony.

A special thank you to Elder Mary Lou Smoke for sharing her teachings, songs and stories with us. There’s an important lesson in bringing our children into these spaces too ~ making sure they grow up knowing the history of this land, and carrying these teachings forward.

Today, we honour Survivors, their families and communities, and the children who never came home.

We sorted through endless carrots, beets, apples, pears, onion, potatoes, celery, sweet potato, oranges, butternut squash, acorn squash & more

We gathered for a beautiful sunrise ceremony this morning. Together, we watched the full Harvest Moon fade as the sky began to change, singing until the sun was ready to rise and give us day again. 🌕🌅

We shared strawberries with the rising sun and connected with each other in the quiet beauty of a new day.

Thank you so much Mary Lou Smoke & family for your wonderful leadership. We love learning from you🍓

We took a visit to New Moon 🌑 🌱 🫜 New Moon Community Homestead & we left with beets and watermelon to test and look at this colour reveal- we are in love with the produce at New Moon!

Held in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we’ll gather as the sun rises for prayer, song, reflection, and connection, while honouring residential school Survivors, their families, and communities.
