Made it home from the goat show in Olds we didn’t win big but learned lots. Unfortunately entries were way down so they changed it to a commercial meat goat show last minute. I had only prepped my pure bred kiko ladies that still had kids on them so I decided to stick with the original plan and just go knowing they looked way more like working ladies than fat meat goats. Unfortunately in the show world they can only judge the animal they see in front of them not what is behind the scenes. It is impossible to judge the fact that that dam had 13 babies in her four years of breeding and she fed and raised each and every one of them. It is impossible to judge the fact that that dam had absolutely no problem birthing any of them and loved and cared for them immediately so I did not have to. It is impossible to judge the fact that she had a buckling this year that had a 60 day weight of 40.4 lbs. So my kiko ladies did not win the big prizes and probably never will but we made new contacts, had tons of fun and I can’t thank Alberta Goat Association enough for all their help and hospitality they did their absolute best even though it wasn’t the show they had hoped for. Will I take my kiko ladies again? ABSOLUTELY! I will continue to work at showing off this fabulous breed. See you in Melville in August!!
