Savoury Millet, Veggie Garlic & Cheese Scones !
Ingredients :
475 g - Mix of Millet (Ragi & Whole wheat)
-1 tsp baking powder
- salth as per taste
- Garlic powder or fresh grated garlic as per taste
-175 g unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
- 175 ml buttermilk + 1 egg beaten together
- Grated cheese
- Chopped vegetables of choice ( I have added beans, corn, carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, water chestnuts and bell peppers)
- milk/egg wash
1. Preheat the oven to 220ºc/200ºc and preheat a large oven tray
2. Add the flour, baking powder, salt and butter
3. Rub together with your finger tips to a breadcrumb texture
4. Add the buttermilk egg mix, garlic, veggies and mix together as little as possible until it combines. I use a spatula and my hands to do this.
5. Press down gently onto a floured surface to about 3-4cm thick
6. Cut out with a floured cutter – do not twist to get them out – I use a 5-6cm cutter and make 10 -12 scones
7. Once they are all cut out, place onto the preheated tray
8. Brush the tops with egg wash or milk
9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden
Leave to cool for 15-20 minutes, and enjoy warm, or cool fully.
