Yesterday was one of those days I wished I could hold on to for just a little longer.

The lake lay beneath a veil of mist, the water so still that it felt as though the whole world had paused. Light moved quietly across the surface, familiar places appeared almost otherworldly, and for a while, there was nothing but the vastness and beauty of it all.

Later, on our way home, I sat behind Jan on the ATV and tipped my head back. Above us, the stars were scattered across the darkness, brighter than they ever seem anywhere else. And in that moment, everything felt simple. The noise of the outside world disappeared, time seemed to stand still, and I felt completely held by this place.

This is my world. Or at least, one side of it.

A world that still feels wild and mysterious. A world of mist, water, darkness and stars. A world we long to share, not with everyone, but with those who can still become quiet enough to truly see it.

Every decision we make on this farm today will shape what this land will become tomorrow.
Sometimes those decisions are about animals. Sometimes about forests, water, soil or a piece of land and the question of what its future should look like.

Some areas of our farm had already been clear-cut before we bought the property. For some of them, we made a conscious decision not to simply let them return to forest, but to turn them into permanent grassland.

Because grasslands matter, too.

They provide feed for our animals , support biodiversity, protect the soil and create an entirely different ecosystem alongside our forests, wetlands and lakes.

Today, Jan and Cedric were standing beside the mulcher, discussing exactly that: What do we want this piece of land to become?

There is no single answer for every acre.

Sometimes stewardship means planting trees.
Sometimes it means letting nature take the lead.
And sometimes it means creating open grassland.

Farming is not only about what we harvest this year.

It is about deciding what kind of land we want to leave behind.

Happy Birthday to the man behind so much of what you see at Lindsay Lake Farms. ๐ŸŽ‚

If something needs to be built, fixed, moved, figured out or somehow made possible when everyone else says it canโ€™t be done, chances are, Jan is somewhere behind it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

For more than 30 years, farming, forestry, machinery and entrepreneurship have been part of his life. And Lindsay Lake Farms carries his fingerprints pretty much everywhere from the fields and forests to the barns, trails, machines and countless projects that started with: โ€œI have an ideaโ€ฆโ€

Today, however, weโ€™re giving the projects a little break.

A day designed to get hands-on experience on a real working farm.

For those who want to step out of comfort and into real capability.

Strength. Endurance. Responsibility. Practical skills.

We live in a time when almost everything is becoming more digital, automated and increasingly connected to AI. But there is another kind of intelligence that matters just as much: knowing how to actually do things.

Farm Skills Day is an introduction to exactly that.

You will take part in real daily farm tasks, work outdoors in changing conditions, learn basic practical skills, engage with land, animals and tools, and experience what physical work and responsibility actually feel like.

This is not about watching someone else work.

You will get involved.

You may get dirty. You may get tired. You may do things you have never done before. And you may discover that you are capable of much more than you thought.

No previous farm experience is required.
Women and men are equally welcome.

With a maximum of only four participants, this is intentionally a small and hands-on experience.

The feeling.

You wake slowly, not because an alarm tells you to, but because the morning gently arrives around you. A warm cup of coffee rests in your hands as the first rays of sunshine settle on your skin. Bees drift from flower to flower. Butterflies dance through the garden. Freshly cut grass carries its unmistakable summer scent on the breeze. Somewhere in the distance, crickets continue their quiet song while leaves whisper softly overhead. Birds seem to greet the day as though no one has ever been in a hurry and the Bison and Clydesdales graze peacefully in their pastures.

Nothing asks anything of you here.

No meetings.
No expectations.

Just breakfast.
Just nature.
Just you.

And almost without noticing, something inside you becomes quiet again.
