First BBQ Competition of the Year!
This past weekend marked our kickoff to the 2025 BBQ season. We were a little rusty out of the gate, but still turned in some solid results!
Big thanks to my awesome pit crew, Ki Nya Baker, for keeping everything running smoothly.
We competed against 26 top-notch teams from Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and the U.S.
🏆 Results:
• 11th Overall
• 15th 🐔 – honestly thought it was my best chicken yet!
• 4th Pork Ribs
• 17th Pork
• 5th Brisket
Huge congratulations to Cyclone BBQ on earning their first Grand Championship, and to Prairie Smoke & Spice BBQ on taking Reserve Champion honors!

After 6 years of smoking meat in the backyard, I decided to enter my first BBQ competition. With friends and family complimenting my cooking and, most importantly, my Queen, Kinya supporting and encouraging me to enter, I went all in and entered a Master Series Competition. Placing 9th overall, 5th in chicken, 15th ribs, 7th pork, and 7th brisket. Far exceeding my expectations. Placing in the top 10 in 3 categories is very rare for rookies. Special thanks to my Queen Kinya, Fiifi Markin, for lending a hand, David Hunnam, for letting me borrow his massive pellet smoker. John from Parrothead BBQ and the Boyz Mike and Nick from Mean Moe's BBQ sharing expertise. Ramblin Road Brewery for hosting and of course, my employer, Avis Budget Group for providing the cargo van.
