🌶️ 🌾 From Prince Edward County to Oliver Farms, meet Judy Ning, co-founder and culinary lead of Paper Kite Farm.

Judy and her partner Hans cultivate regenerative produce and rare Southeast Asian vegetables from family seeds carried from Laos to Canada, preserving and evolving Hmong food traditions here in The County.

Her cooking follows the rhythm of the land. Fermentation, fire and the week’s harvest come together in food that feels closer to ceremony than supper.

🌱 Farm Shop Announcements 🌱

A few changes to our shop hours as our students head back to school.

The shop will still be open seven days a week, but our takeout counter will be limited to weekends, beginning this weekend.

🥚 Eggs will only be available on weekends as our birds enter molting season.

We’ve been having so much fun serving up farm offerings through our takeout counter and hanging out with our neighbours, friends, and visitors who have stopped by.

You’ve all witnessed the many phases of this little roadside stand as we try to cultivate agriculture, local food, and culture from our little 6-acre farm. And I’ve gotta say, life feels so full with you all along the journey with us, watching, noticing, and celebrating the little upgrades and changes as the farm grows.

Chinese celery is at peak right now and perfect for stewing, accents, and as a mire poix. It’s intensely flavoured with bright notes. Will be at the shop this weekend!

Wednesday Field Notes:

Still lots of Swiss chard

Hmong cucumbers to be reserved for Farm dinner

Vietnamese coriander aka Rau Ram is superb right now.

Edamame has 1 week left

G*i Lan reserved

We have corn tassels

Yard long beans is flowering, higher trellis for next planting.

Letting part of the cilantro bed go to seed to collect cilantro berries.

Bush bean has about 2 more harvest. Plan for termination.

Jalepenos coming in hot.

Rando shish*to on the jalepeno bed is doing really well, but the shish*to bed is still small. Look at amendment notes.

More cauliflower coming up, should size up for dinner and market.

Lots of dill flower. What can we pickle?

Long Jiao peppers, photographed here, are ready to harvest.
