🍂🍷 Do you feel that chill in the air?! I DO. 🥶 And apparently, my wine choices have already moved into fall.

My latest Wines of the Week on Unwined with Mandi on CJAD 800 Montreal are two beautiful Portuguese red wines from Quinta do Crasto, in Portugal’s breathtaking Douro Valley. ⛰️🍇🇵🇹

Both are available at the SAQ here in Quebec, and they’re a great way to see how different winemaking choices can change what ends up in your glass.

I also recently sat down with Miguel Roquette, co-owner of Quinta do Crasto, to talk about the Douro, the family estate, Port and the incredible dry wines being made in the region. ⛰️🍇

🍷 It’s International Port Wine Day, darlings. Let’s get acquainted.

Port deserves a little more attention….

It’s delicious, incredibly versatile and has far more range than many people realize. But what I love most is that every bottle is filled with history, place and culture. 🇵🇹

Port comes from Portugal’s Douro Valley, where vines grow on slopes so impossibly steep that seeing them in person makes you wonder how anyone farms them at all. This is one of the world’s great historic wine regions
,and Port is a huge part of its story. ⛰️🍇

And there isn’t just one Port. Ruby, Tawny, White, Rosé, LBV, Vintage… completely different styles, occasions and ways to drink them. 🍷

Tawny is my personal favorite, and Quinta do Crasto makes one of the best. Beautifully nutty, complex and layered, but still ridiculously easy to enjoy. This is example happens to be 20yo Tawny.

Port gets misjudged. It gets saved for Christmas, pushed to the end of dinner or dismissed as something your grandparents drank. And honestly, we’re missing out. 😕

So today, find a bottle at the SAQ, and learn a little about where it comes from. Dare to discover this historic wine give it attention it deserves. 🍷

Airlie Bank Garden Red from Punt Road is exactly the kind of Australian wine I want more people drinking.

😎This is COOL climate Australia, and this wine absolutely shows it. It’s juicy, fruity, fresh, and ridiculously easy to drink. A joy.

💁‍♀️This is what I call a ‘quaffable’ wine. BBQ? Yep. Pizza? Absolutely. Quick glass with friends? Perfect. Random Thursday night when you just want something elegant delicious? That too. Ticks all the boxes my friends.

🇨🇦🥂I think we ALL deserve a cocktail 💁‍♀️✨

Maybe it’s the stress of going back to school (where are my fellow teachers at?) or the political drama we’re in right now, but I think we all deserve a cocktail. 🙌

This summer I tasted a French 75 that was so good I came home wanting to make my own version. (No lemons in the house, so I went slightly off script.) 😬

I’m calling it the Unwined 75.✨

I used Madison Park London Dry Gin. 💕 It’s a family-owned company, right here in Quebec using Quebec ingredients, and it comes in BIB format to boot.

I talk a lot about supporting Canadian wine, but there are some pretty great Canadian spirits being made in our own backyard too. 🇨🇦

My version is simple: London dry gin, a little simple syrup and rosé sparkling wine. Not quite a French 75, but that’s where it started.😆
