The word Wagyu (和牛) translates directly to "Japanese cow." Wagyu cattle are a specific breed originally from Japan, known for their intense marbling and unmatched tenderness. Unlike other breeds, Wagyu naturally develops intramuscular fat that melts at a lower temperature, giving it that signature buttery texture and depth of flavour.

But Wagyu beef isn’t just about fat content, it’s about the type of fat. The marbling in Wagyu contains a higher percentage of monounsaturated fats, omega-3s, and omega-6 fatty acids, making it not only delicious but also healthier than traditional beef!

What happens when you decide to just go for it?

For us, it looked like buying land near Nanton, bringing Conway's Black Angus cows from Hanna, introducing Wagyu genetics to the herd, and taking a chance on building something new...

We knew we had great cattle. We knew we loved ranching. And we had a pretty big idea of what we could create by bringing Wagyu and Angus together.

So we went for it.

Today, we're raising Wagyu × Angus beef that we're incredibly proud to put our name on. Beautiful marbling, incredible flavour, and premium beef raised right here in southern Alberta.

But one of the best parts has been watching all of YOU get excited about it too.

Every couple months we like to reintroduce ourselves to the new folks showing up on our virtual doorstep. We appreciate you being here! So, hey, we’re the family behind Six 9 Ranch 👋

We’re a family-run ranch near Nanton, Alberta raising Wagyu × Angus cattle with a focus on quality, care, and producing beef we’re genuinely proud to feed people.

Ranching has been part of our family’s life for generations, and in 2020 we took a leap into building our Wagyu × Angus program. We're combining the incredible marbling of Wagyu with the bold flavour of Angus to create beef that truly tastes different.

What started as a dream has grown into something we’re incredibly grateful for. From packing beef boxes at the ranch, to hearing your reviews, to seeing our beef on family dinner tables across Alberta… we don’t take any of it for granted.
