There was a challenge going around about composting underwear.

Well here are my results. A few months into my worm bin and this is all that’s left of my cotton un**es. The elastic and threads are not cotton Jockey, could you please check with your supplier?

I noticed gardeners struggling with their black plastic compost bins… so I designed something that works better and is more functional!

Introducing the Bench of Life - a cedar garden bench that turns food scraps into rich compost using worms 🪱

It looks beautiful in the garden, makes composting way easier, and can be fed all kinds of food scraps, leaves, grass clippings, and . Plus, I personally help you get set up and support you along the way (yes, I’m the worm guy 😂).

Built locally in Ottawa from sturdy cedar by a woodshop that hires people with disabilities, this worm bench is an investment for the years.

Dimensions - 6 ft wide, 1.5 ft tall, 1.5 ft deep.
Two options are available -
#1 with integrated planters on either side (4ft of composting space)
#2 with a flat lid and 6 ft of composting space

It includes delivery, worms, set up and a mini workshop on best practices.

Message me if you want to see if one would fit your garden 🌿

It’s and we’re here to show that you can compost at work too - with a worm farm! This big green worm farm at beside the window has been discretely composting coffee grinds, tea bags, leftover lunches and paper napkins for years.

There have been many worm caretakers over time, all hub members, and is currently stewarded by Scotty, resident worm lover. We help in some maintenance and running programming in the space to educate others.

It’s a simple, cheap, and odour free way to manage organics in an office and we can help create a cool employee engagement program around it, whenever your office is located. Message us if you’d like to see one in yours and we can make it happen :)

My compostable kitchen sponge is a brothel for the wormies. Look at how many eggs they laid on it!

Happy earth day from team wormies! We were happy to share the morning talking to IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) employees as part of their first earth day celebrations! We are glad to see the launch of their Green Team, Sustainify, and we are hopeful that they can inspire more pockets of earth lovers like them within all branches of the government.

Tag us if you were there and tell your friends that worms might be weird but they’re amazing because box of life showed me so. 🪱

Last weekend I took advantage of the beautiful day in Ottawa and built a compost pile for my friend's backyard.

The goal was to make a decent amount of compost this season using whatever we had.

- 1/2 inch wire mesh, random stakes and zip ties created the container
- Woodchips, dehydrated food scraps from my foodcycler were the main inputs for the recipe

My recipe calculations:
I want to aim for a 1:1 ratio of browns to greens. The bucket of dry foodcycler would have originally been ~9 buckets of food scraps. So I added 9 buckets of woodchips to get my ratios.

1. I set up a base layer of leaves
2. Added 1/3 bucket of foodcycler then 3 buckets of woodchips
3. I also inoculated the pile with microbes from my worm castings
4. I asked the kids to water the pile lol
5. It rained the next day soaking the compost bin as we wanted it to be drenched

I'll turn the pile in two weeks!

Last night’s STEM event at Meadowlands was a blast! Big thanks to Parent Council at Medowlands school for hosting some wigglers at the event..

Audra had an amazing time talking about her worm bin and her red wiggler wormies. The kids had a blast digging around the worm bin too! Audra’s wormies got extra love today and cantelope rinds as a reward!

Thanks to all the students that really ‘dug’ us 😂🪱🪏
