Even the most pious sailor needs skivvies for his day off, and the Naval Zip Neck is perfect for the gent who like to bring a level of sophistication to his casual wear. A couple of our favourites from Gitman Vintage this season. These are a part of their Shaggy Flannel family.
Each of these are a Japanese 6.02 oz 100% cotton twill with an exaggerated brushing process that makes them feel shaggy! Although these flannels are shaggy its important to focus on the mélange weaving technique. Melange fabrics are sometimes known as shadow plaids because of how the colours seem to blend from one to the next as opposed to one colour stopping and another starting. To achieve this, there is a delicate balance of yarn dying and weave technique slowly transitions from one colour to the next. In some places on the fabric there are more than five yarn colours contributing to the effect. This gradual blending of colours is furthered by the shaggy quality of the fabric. Brush the fabric raises fibers so that the even threads seem to be blurred.

The Blanket Lined Denim is a 14.5oz Japanese Denim. While this is named “Blanket Lined” it is not really lined at all. The vintage style blanket you see on the inside of the jean is woven into the fabric. This is a double weave denim that has 2 warps and 2 wefts that are woven simultaneously and bound together as one comfy cozy fabric. The fabric is dense and raw without being particularly rigid. Cut, sewn, built in Canada with tonal stitching, dark brown leather patch, mil spec non reflective buttons and rivets.

Based out of Montreal, made in Canada, this Naked & Famous Circular Knit T-Shirt is made from a 205 GSM cotton jersey. The fabric is circular knit made on vintage machines using ring spun yarns; a process that yields the finest and strongest cotton yarn. “I had to say goodbye to one of my closest friends, Blair Nelson approx 9/10 yrs ago from cancer. Seeing the trials and tribulations, first hand that this disease presents, left an everlasting mark. Losing someone close changes people forever.
If these efforts can assist anyone in reducing hardships or increase the possibility of success rates, I couldn’t be happier to try and help!”
Justin will be going under the scissors at Providence (on Hunter Street in Peterborough, ON) for a barber cut with Devin on Sept 20th at 4pm - if you would like to attend to cheer him on please do so!

The ASAP connected small business owners with local professionals who would help them with specific advice or training to help them through the ever-changing pandemic world. This grant-funded program covered the advisory costs for the businesses taking part in the program.
Savino HRP stepped up to assist Providence with HR solutions. Mike Watt, the owner of Providence, said, “new guidelines federally and provincially were all so confusing, and Savino was a saviour in navigating everything.” “We were able to get better employment contracts, clear guidance on hiring best practices and keep our team feeling comfortable with their position in the company.”
A year later, we checked in, and Mike said, “sales are recovering, the supply chain is opening up, and spirits are high, both internally and from customers.” Another local business has weathered the storm.

When small business owners backs are against the wall, we figure things out. It's why we are what we are, why we do what we do. We're problem solvers. In the current health crisis, all of our friends from retail and hospitality, to personal services and the arts, have had our doors closed time and time again.
We feel under represented, so we decided to do a creative project with the most inspiring people we know. From the featured business owners to the friends that we worked with to create this project, all of us are hoping to be heard as a group.
Is this campaign going to do anything for any of us? Maybe not. Could it reframe the conversation about what we have all been facing in small business through out our 9 months of closure this year? We hope so.
Family businesses are what builds our towns legacy, we aren't defined by the big guys. We are the heartbeat of this city and have been under immense pressure for over a year now. We are frightened we're not defeated, we are tired we're not sad.
We draw strength from our customers, our fellow business owners and our front line workers pushing endlessly to ensure the safety of our community.
We want a chance to recover our livelihood, a fighting chance. We are all willing to put our money where our memories live, are you?
