So much amazing local produce in! We had peaches, blueberries and some summer apples arrive this morning ! Bread fresh out of the oven, potatoes dug this morning and tomatoes fresh from the garden. August is so bountiful!

What's been going on at VVITCHFARM?

It's been a good week on the land and on the water! Did a salmon charter with friends and caught this dandy 20lb Chinook. Brined it a few days then smoked it, turned out great.

Chanterelles are here, one of my favourite wild mushrooms. It's especially nice to forage some after last year's drought season when there were no mushrooms.

Harvested about 4000 garlic today with another 2 or 3k to go. It's looking great and I'll have some in the shop this weekend. Grateful for tractors lol.

Eggplant the duck is growing fast! They are spending their days in with the main flock but still in the house at night. It's a lot like dropping your kid off at daycare for the first time. Eggplant really loves their special duck breakfast of peas in water.

What's been going on at VVITCHFARM this week?

Solstice usually marks the beginning of harvest season on the homestead. Picking and drying lots of flowers for magic or tea. Chamomile, red clover and the roses are particularly lovely this year.

Been harvesting garlic scapes from the 6000 garlic that I planted last November. It's in a field of blooming milkweed so it's been lovely to observe the monarch caterpillars, many types of bees , butterflies and other pollinators that come to feed.

Been making time for fishing with friends and we welcomed Eggplant the Cayuga duckling 🦆. It's been a difficult year for births in the coop so when I saw this egg hatching I brought it in for better chances. Eggplant has been enjoying their first few days of life. Born under the sign of Cancer, their initial interests include listening to Big Thief, hanging out in my hair and nibbling socks.

It's going to be a great weekend!

Restocked on your favourites and a bunch of new goodies too! More produce rolling in, we've got fresh greens, strawberries and rhubarb. Duck eggs, new Ontario artisan cheeses and a special small batch lilac sparkling water!
