Test Batch #2 for the Welsh Harlequin Mixes was 6/6 for fertility and hatchability. I count that as a win!

Test Batch #1 Welsh Harlequin Mix Eggs:
Started with 8 eggs in the incubator.
Week 1 Candling: All developing
Week 2 Candling: 1 Passed away
Week 3: A batch of chicks in the same incubator hatched, causing prolonged high humidity. Candling afterwards revealed 2 more had passed away.
Week 4: I decided to put them under a broody hen to have her raise them. She rejected 1 egg so I put it back in the incubator.
A day after the duckling's due date I decided to move them all back into the incubator as the hen had killed the chick that was hatching with the ducklings, either by negligence or intentionally.
One duckling that had pipped was deceased in the egg and another had stopped developing before pipping. 2 out of the 3 remaining ducklings where shrink wrapped and had to be assisted out of their eggs. The 1 that didn't need assistance had splayed legs that returned to normal on their own after 2 days.

I hatched a grand total of 3 ducklings, 2 Black Dominant Bibbed, and 1 Harlequin.

Needless to say I want some redemption after this hatch. I am already collecting eggs to start another batch. Lessons learned:
1) Don't trust a chicken
2) Put grippy mats in incubator at hatch.

The extra toes on this mixed-breed bantam chick is not completely surprising given its distant silkie heritage, but 6 toes? 😅 It even has an itty bitty toenail!
