Good bye 2024, hello 2025!
_______
I forgot to post about new years, and since we’re entering into the lunar new year… Happy new year everyone, 明けましておめでとうございます!(akemash*te, omedetougozaimasu).
~I wish you all another year of good health, success and overall happiness~
I celebrated the new year - Japanese style 🇯🇵 with a new years feast called “お節” (Osechi) (from for $99). Usually I’m in Japan for the festivities, but recently I haven’t gone back during this time of year. So I’m glad I can still enjoy my favourites even at home🎍
Did you know that in Japan, most businesses close for a few days after new years to celebrate with family? (And yes, lots of sake is consumed lol)
🎍Most items symbolize good fortune for the new year and are served in lacquer boxes (お重/oju):
•datemaki (伊達巻): sweet omelette with fish = education
•kuri kinton (栗きんとん): candied chestnuts = economic fortune and wealth
•tazukuri (田作り):candied sardines =bountiful harvest
•kuromame (黒豆): sweet black soybeans = health
•kazunoko (数の子): herring roe = prosperous family and offsprings
•gobou (ごぼう):burdock root =good luck
•konbu maki (昆布巻き): Kombu kelp roll = youthful and long life
•kamaboko (かまぼこ): fish cakes = red and white colour symbolizes happiness, purity and new entry to the new year
•ebi (海老): shrimp = wish for long life
•nishime (煮しめ): Simmered vegetables in light soy broth = good fortune
•mochi (お餅): rice cake = energy for new beginnings, longevity, prosperity and strong family unit
•ozoni (おぞうに): mochi soup eaten for 3 days=prosperity and well being for the year ahead
