Moving sheep from pasture #1 to pasture #2

This is rotational grazing.
Pasture #1 they were on from Monday evening till Friday afternoon.

Now pasture #2 they are on and we will be assessing the grass everyday.

We had to add two pastures together as last year only 9 sheep ran on those pastures and 16 on different parts of the acreage. This year we are joining all sheep to make a flock of 34. Which is all ewes and ewe lambs of our 2026 lambing season that can currently be outside. 10 more will be joining in later. All our 11 rams currently are inside but we have hopes of getting them outside and into their own grazing areas.

Rotational grazing needs intentional observation. To do the best for the sheep but also for our pastures. Lots of moving and hot electric fence.

We have officially finished our planting season in the apple orchard. We added an assortment of pear trees. Now next will be to clear any small trees coming up that aren’t what we planted and a lot of watering in the future.

Might not look like much yet but this is the beginning of our Apple orchard here on the farm. Let’s hope they all take root.
