People always talk about “wedding season” like it’s this tiny little window in the summer.

But after doing enough weddings, you realize pretty quickly… there really isn’t one.

We’ve catered weddings when the sun is still shining late into the evening, weddings with crisp fall air outside, weddings surrounded by snow, and weddings where spring is just starting to show up again.

Love doesn’t really care what month it is.

What does change, though, is the food.

The menu starts to follow the season without you even realizing it.

In the summer, people want things that feel fresh, bright and light. Then fall rolls in and suddenly everyone wants warmth, richness and those flavours that feel a little more comforting. Winter becomes cozy and indulgent, and spring starts bringing everything back to life again.

That’s one of the things we love most about wedding catering.

The celebration might always be about the same thing — two people choosing each other — but the feeling around it changes every single season.

And we get to tell a little piece of that story through the food.

So no, we don’t really have a “wedding season.”

We just have weddings… all year long. ❤️

And the menu gets to change right along with them.

At the end of every wedding night, there are approximately three types of people left:

💃 The “ONE MORE SONG!” crew
Shoes are off. Hair is questionable. Energy is somehow at an all-time high.

🥱 The ones who mentally left two hours ago
Sitting quietly. Holding their jacket. Waiting for someone to finally say, “Okay, we’re going.”

🧹 And the helpers
Stacking chairs, collecting purses, finding lost phones and somehow still having a great time doing it. 😂

By the end of the night, everyone has officially chosen their character.

And at Merry Folks Catering? We’re just happy to be there for the entire ride — from the first toast to the final “WHERE ARE MY SHOES?!” 🥂😂

Wedding days are magical. ✨

They are also occasionally… a full-contact sport. 😂

Because no matter how perfectly you plan, something is probably going to happen.

The weather changes its mind.
Someone forgets the rings.
A button pops off.
The timeline goes completely rogue.
Uncle Gary finds the microphone.
And somehow one person is ALWAYS missing when it’s time for photos.

Problems will happen.

The secret? Have the right team around you.

🚗✨ And just like that, Rock’n August is a wrap! ✨🚗

What. A. WEEK.

Did you know Rock’n August had 14 different events happening throughout the week?! FOURTEEN! 🤯 From the cars and the crowds to the incredible energy throughout St. Albert, there was seriously always something happening.

We were SO thrilled to be a part of the festivities this year! We got to meet so many wonderful people, take in all the action, snap some fabulous photos of Miss Rockin’ Retro 💃📸 and, of course, have a good old time while we were at it!

Events like this are such a great reminder of how much fun there is right here in our community and how many amazing people come together to make it all happen. ❤️

If you missed Rock’n August this year, put it on your radar for next summer. We hope you get out, enjoy the festivities and experience a little bit of the craziness for yourself!

💍 7 years married and still finding reasons to celebrate! 🥂❤️

Last month, Jackie and her husband celebrated their 7th wedding anniversary, and what better way to mark the occasion than with one of Edmonton’s classic summer pastimes — an evening aboard the Edmonton Riverboat! 🚢✨

Good views, great company, a little cruising down the river… and obviously, we couldn’t make a trip into the big city without tracking down some good eats too. 😂🍴

Because if you know Jackie, you know food is ALWAYS going to be part of the adventure.

Cheers to 7 years, plenty more adventures, and many, many more great meals together! 🥂❤️

There is something special about being part of a community that comes together to celebrate.

We were so excited to be part of the Rock N August festivities this week, providing breakfast for the Owners Pride Breakfast, and what an incredible morning it turned out to be!

When a brand-new event is added to a lineup as big as Rock N August, you never quite know what to expect. But wow… the turnout exceeded every expectation. The room was full, the energy was contagious, and seeing so many smiling faces start their day with a great breakfast made all the early morning prep worthwhile.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, and to the organizers for trusting Merry Folks Catering to help kick off the day. We loved being part of such a fantastic event and can’t wait to do it again next year!

This year has brought us into so many new spaces, new events, and new experiences—and with every one comes a little bit of the unknown.

That’s the thing about catering: sometimes you walk into a brand-new venue, a different kitchen, or a completely new setup, and you have to trust the quality of your ingredients, the experience of your team, and the ability of your chef to bring it all together.

Behind every beautiful event are a hundred moving pieces, quick decisions, adjustments, and moments where you simply have to know that everything will work out.

And so far, it truly has.

We are incredibly proud of the events we’ve created this year, and the feedback from our clients and guests has been absolutely amazing. Every new space has helped us grow, every challenge has made us stronger, and every successful event reminds us why we love what we do.

Sometimes the secret ingredient is simply trusting the process. 🤍
