Happy to have critters back in the field! The ram lambs of the sheep we sold in the fall (and a few tag a longs) are back for the summer months to take some pressure off their home pasture, help wean them, and help us keep things trimmed around here.

While they make excellent lawnmowers - where they really excel is whipper snipping. We can’t wait to get them into the next section to trim down all the growth around our tractor implements, chicken coop and backyard junk!

Cheep cheep cheep🐥🐥🐥 The not so little chickies moved into their big summer house yesterday. They’re glad to have some more space and the boys were excited to start giving them some treats from around the yard.

Peep Emerson in the last pic realizing he’ll have to do animal chores when he grows up!😂

“Cheep cheep cheep” is all you can hear in our garage. Hatched some fluffy butts to grow out for the summer! The hens will replace some of our laying hens and the roosters will be butchered for their meat in the late fall.

We have another batch in the incubator that will be ready for their new homes the weekend of May 30. Barnyard mix, straight run, $3 each. Reach out to secure yours early!

We’ve been a little quiet the last few months. We’d usually be welcoming lambs this time of year - but we’ve been focusing on our own little lamb!

Knowing we would be very busy with family life we made the hard decision to rehome our flock late in the fall. Fortunately they went to a friend around the corner and we’re happy they’re in good hands. We have had sheep since 2017 and welcomed dozens of lambs over the years.

We kept our chickens as we love having eggs and that they consume 90% of our food waste. However, they are work nonetheless! Anthony hasn’t missed a day of barn chores and we’re very appreciative of him trudging through snow, wind and rain to keep them fed and watered.

It’s a little bittersweet not to see lambs running around the pasture especially when it’s all our kids have known. We’re looking forward to some smaller scale things and working on making our backyard a bit more functional for the family! Keep an eye out as there may still be some critters around here.

Meet Emerson - our only 2026 lamb! (So far😉)

Farm fresh eggs for sale! $5 a dozen.🍳🥚🐓

Not only have our spring chicks been laying, they’re now laying sizeable eggs and we didn’t downsize the flock this fall. This means we have lots of eggs!

Elliot and I will be making some deliveries around Nackawic tomorrow - reach out if you’d like some! Or as always, pickup available on the Campbell Settlement Road!

It’s zucchini season!🥒🥒🥒 When everyone’s counters are overflowing. One of our favorite ways to eat zucchini fresh is fried with oil and some spices. The smaller/young ones are the best for this we find as the peels aren’t too think and cook up well.

I had extra brine and dill leftover the other night when making some carrots so we actually made a few jars of zucchini dill spears. Curious to see if they’re crunchy like pickles or soggy and a “never again.”

We moved the hens from our spring hatch to the barn to hang out with some like minded ladies recently. They’ll have fewer roosters to deal with and start getting supplemental light - which makes a huge difference going into the fall. 💡🐓

We were happy to get our first egg from them this week! How do we know it’s an egg from a young hen? They’re a fraction of the size! The new girls will continue laying small eggs for the coming weeks which will gradually increase to “normal size.” 🍳🥚

The remaining roosters will stay out back for now and head to freezer camp later in the fall!🍗

Tried something new this weekend🌶️🫑🫛

We mixed banana, jalapeño and a few slivers of habanero peppers together in a brine to be pickled with garlic. Stay tuned if they’re too spicy to eat!

Used the brine from our classic dill beans. They’re a great tangy addition to a charcuterie board or late night snack!
