We have welcomed a new guardian to the farm.

Everyone meet Dalai (Dolly) llama !

The ewes are out on pasture with Drama llama as a protector.
Unfortunately that leaves all the lambs unsupervised. When this girl popped up on my phone I knew she would be a perfect addition.

Clifford our triplet bottle lamb from the end of February was a bit small this spring when his siblings sold. Starting to get big finally!

Raising, owning and breeding livestock is always something with its highs and lows. This business is not for the faint of heart.

Unfortunately last week was a rough one around here. We had been talking for awhile about Carrie losing condition, followed by her losing her pregnancy. I was hopeful that she would pick back up after the loss, but unfortunately she continued a downwards trend.
We made the choice to let her go.

Later in the week Miranda was bloated. After 10 hours of bloat meds, pain killers and enemas she turned around and returned outside with her twin ewe lambs.
Saturday afternoon we found her down again, bleeding from her mouth and promptly euthanized her.
I have no idea what was wrong, and unfortunately I was away and unable to do a necropsy.

Both of these girls were staples in my breeding program, were two of my very first sheep, and the beginning of my Icelandic flock.
Miranda gave me my first ever lamb, and Carrie gave me triplets every year.

They will both be very missed. ❤️

RIP
Miranda Lambert & Carrie Underwool
