This is my harvest basket from May 31st, 2026. (And the birdsong soundtrack was absolutely real - no editing or adding required! Thank you Mr. Wren!)

The blooms from the field are absolutely gorgeous. Planting is more than halfway completed, and things are looking gorgeous here at The Garden. And I don’t think I can pick a favourite from the blooms in that bucket. Each one is spectacular.

Which one would be your favourite?

Did you have frost at your place this week? We did! And we were glad to have put the effort on to cover the fields. If you didn’t cover your plants and have some frost damage, my best advice is to water, fertilize, and let the plant rebound naturally. A gardener once told me that every plant just wants to live. I believe that is true. Give it a chance and your damaged plant will surprise you.

But now the weather looks to be changing again - and spring (maybe even summer) is finally on its way.

The farm stand is open this weekend - Friday thru Sunday 10am-6pm. We still have gorgeous spring flowers!

See you soon

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news this Monday morning, but winter isn’t done with us yet! There is the very real possibility of a late spring hard freeze tonight. This will be devastating on any annuals, so be sure to bring any annuals indoors or under cover. If this means you are covering with a bedsheet or row cover, DO NOT let the cover touch the plants.

ALSO, tender perennials and budding plants or trees will also be at risk. Insulating these plants by cover *may* help limit the damage. Again, if you choose to cover, DO NOT let the cover touch the plants.

This will be a serious blow to gardens and growers of all kinds, so as we work to protect our plants as best we can, our thoughts are also with everyone in Southern Ontario dealing with this tonight. The extent of the damage will not be readily assessable in the morning. Hopefully this frost event will not occur, but we will be busy covering today, and we’ll talk more of outcomes and best ways to deal with any resulting damage tomorrow.

Best wishes for your gardens and plants!!!!
