Prep is underway. Stations are being set. Your team knows what they need for the day.

You shouldn’t have to add things to an order just to reach a dollar amount or buy more produce than your kitchen actually needs.

At Deluxe, we don’t have minimum orders.

Order based on your business, your menu and what you actually need. And because we break cases too, you’re not automatically stuck buying a full case when you only need part of one.

So you found a better case price. But are you actually saving money?

If you need half a case and have to buy the whole thing to get that price, what happens to the rest?

Maybe you use it. Maybe it sits in the walk-in. Maybe some of it eventually gets thrown out.

That cheaper case doesn’t look quite as cheap anymore.

Finding produce for a few dollars less can feel like you’re saving money. But what did it take to get that price?

Driving to the store, shopping, waiting in line, loading your vehicle, driving back, unloading and putting everything away all take time. And if you’re doing that regularly to compare prices or pick up your own produce, those hours add up.

The better question isn’t just, “What did I pay?”

It’s “What did it actually cost me to get it?”

But when you spend an hour or two driving around to get a better price, are you including your own time in that calculation?
There’s the drive, the fuel, the shopping, the checkout line and the time spent away from your restaurant.
A lower price doesn’t necessarily mean a lower cost.
Sometimes the better value is having what you need delivered while you stay focused on running your business.

So you found produce cheaper somewhere else.

Great. But did you actually save money?

You got in the car. You drove there. You walked the store looking for what you needed. Maybe you went to more than one place comparing prices. You waited in line, loaded everything into the car, drove back, unloaded it and put it away.

And what if the cheaper price means buying a full case when you only need half of it?
Now you’ve spent your time chasing the price, bought more product than you needed, and some of that product may end up as waste.

So before you decide which price is cheaper, ask yourself one more question:
What is your time worth?

Because sometimes the lowest price isn’t actually the lowest cost.

Running a restaurant gives you enough to think about already.

Your team, your guests, your menu, your costs and everything that comes with getting through another successful service all need your attention. Your produce supplier shouldn’t be another problem you have to manage.

Your order should be right. Your delivery should arrive when expected. And when you need your supplier, you should know you can count on them.
