Happy Lunar New Year! I have been holding on this bottle of w**e from China for a couple years and decided today was the day to open and enjoy it. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The Producer, Ningxia Xige Estate, described it as “an elegant w**e with good sweetness on the finish, good structure and intense fruit flavours.” I somewhat agree with that assessment. It definitely had some good dark red and black fruit flavours on the plate along with ripeness that could be mistaken for residual sugar. There wasn’t much tannin so it went down very easily. Overall not a bad first experience with w**e from China. 🍷

Yesterday we entertained for the first time in ages. I felt like sharing bubbles with our friends and came across the Kylie rosé Prosecco at the LCBO… seemed like a good idea to get and enjoy as an aperitif. The bottle was pretty, the colour was pretty, the label was pretty… and the Prosecco? It was alright. Not the best I’ve had but definitely enjoyable. Definitely not in a hurry to buy another bottle though. Have you tried this? What did you think?

Anyone who knows me knows I am a huge proponent and supporter of Ontario w**es, especially smaller producers that don’t have the scale or resources (or desire) to deal with the local alcohol monopoly. And this Pinot Noir from 80x is a great example of small batch, local w**e making done right. If you can, go grab one of these and enjoy it with some comfort food on a cool fall evening. I am definitely going to get another bottle soon!
