Have you ever bought beautiful fresh vegetables, only to find them wilted a few days later?

A few simple storage habits can help them stay fresh longer, reduce food waste, and save you money.

🥕 Carrots: Remove the leafy tops and store them in the fridge. You can always use the tops for a saute, or feed the rabbit :)

🥔 Potatoes: Keep them in a cool, dark place but never next to onions.

🧅 Onions: Store in a dry, well-ventilated area. A wire basket comes to mind.

🍅 Tomatoes: Leave them on the counter until they're ripe, then refrigerate if needed.
If too ripe, you can always roast them. Lots of uses for roasted tomatoes.

🥬 Leafy greens: Wrap them in a paper towel before placing them in the fridge to absorb extra moisture. I've been doing that with my parsley and cilantro, I use a Chinese food container, wash it out, put a paper towel on the bottom, take off the elastic band, separate the leaves (so they don't get mushy) and place another peice of paper towel over, click the lid, it should last for at least 2 weeks in the fridge.

A little preparation goes a long way toward keeping your produce crisp and ready for your next meal.

Here's a little kitchen confession...

Even after writing cookbooks and spending years cooking, I still have those moments.

I've overcooked dinner.
I've forgotten ingredients.
I've burned the toast.
And yes... I've definitely had recipes that didn't turn out the way I imagined!
And sometimes I surprise myself, and wow, I didn't know how good it was going to turn out.
Also, if you don't like an ingredient, don't put it in, or better yet, don't say no to a recipe if you don't like the cilantro; use parsley instead.
The truth is, no one cooks perfectly every time, and that's okay.

Some of the best meals come from learning as you go, having a laugh, and trying again.

So if dinner isn't picture-perfect tonight, don't stress.

You're in good company. ❤️

Now it's your turn...

One of the biggest myths about home cooking is that it has to be expensive.

The truth? Some of the best meals come from making the most of what you already have.

Here are a few habits I swear by:

🛒 Plan your meals before grocery shopping.

🥫 Build meals around pantry staples like rice, pasta, beans, and canned tomatoes.

🥕 Buy fruits and vegetables that are in season whenever possible.

🍲 Cook once, enjoy twice. Leftovers make fantastic lunches—or tomorrow night's dinner.

🥩 Stretch proteins by adding vegetables, beans, or grains to your recipes.

Simple cooking isn't about spending more but how to making smart choices that still bring everyone to the table.

Well... this is what's LEFT! 😂

The mango ones were a BIG hit, and then I found some blueberries hiding in my freezer, so naturally... I made blueberry cookies too! 🥭🫐

And yes, they're completely vegan, NO eggs!

Honestly, I'm pretty happy there aren't many left. That usually means they were good! 😂

People often ask me, "Roslyn, what do you always keep in your fridge?"

Truth is, I don't fill it with fancy ingredients. I keep it stocked with everyday staples that help me put together a delicious meal without overthinking it.

Here are a few things you'll almost always find in my kitchen:

🥚 Eggs – Perfect for breakfast, baking, or a quick dinner.

🧈 Butter – Because some recipes just aren't the same without it.

🧀 Cheese – A little sprinkle can make almost anything better!

🧅 Onions, garlic, carrots, and celery – The perfect base for soups, stews, casseroles, and so many family favorites.

🥛 Milk – A kitchen essential for everything from mashed potatoes to desserts.

🍋 Lemons – Brighten up savory dishes, desserts, and even a refreshing drink.

Keeping a few versatile ingredients on hand makes cooking less stressful and a whole lot more enjoyable. You don't need a fridge full of specialty items—just good, honest ingredients that work hard in the kitchen.

💛 What's one ingredient you'll never let your fridge run out of? Tell me in the comments!

A little reminder before 5 o'clock... 😎🍷

🍷 Taste as you cook... not after the wine, LOL

🍷 Read the recipe first... trust me on this one! The listed ingredients should match the order of the procedure.

🍷 Don't panic if dinner isn't perfect.

🍷 And remember... the best meals are shared with people you enjoy.

Now... once dinner's on the table, pour yourself a well-earned glass. 😉

Hi, I'm Roslyn, and welcome to my kitchen! 👋🍴

I grew up in Blackpool, England, where home-cooked meals were simply part of everyday life. My mum worked full-time as a hairdresser, but somehow dinner was always on the table. She could work magic with her pressure cooker for beef barley soup, fresh bread, fish, and more meat and potato dishes than I could ever count!

Those memories taught me that great food doesn't have to be complicated. It just needs to bring people together.

That's exactly what Roslyn's Kitchen is all about.

Here you'll find simple recipes, clever kitchen tips, BBQ inspiration, fun food facts, and plenty of stories from my own cooking adventures. Whether you're cooking for one or feeding the whole family, I hope you'll feel right at home here.
