Feast your eyes on this traditional Burmese morning spread! 😍

We have bowls of beautiful Black Glutinous Rice (Kauk Nyin) generously topped with tender, savory chickpeas and fragrant toasted sesame seeds. The dark color comes from mixing in black sticky rice, which adds a wonderful depth of flavor and texture.

On the side, a container of crunchy dried fish strips (a classic salty accompaniment) and extra sesame powder for good measure.

Simple ingredients yet incredible flavours~

Burmese cuisine, a hidden gem in Southeast Asia, offers a symphony of flavors that reflect the country's rich history and diverse ethnic groups. It's a culinary journey characterized by a delicate balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy notes, often with an umami depth from fermented fish products.
One of the most iconic dishes is Mohinga, a savory fish noodle soup considered the national dish. It's a staple breakfast but enjoyed throughout the day, featuring vermicelli noodles in a thick, herb-infused broth, often garnished with crispy fritters and a squeeze of lime.
Another must-try is Laphet Thoke, or tea leaf salad. This unique and vibrant salad combines fermented tea leaves with an array of crunchy nuts, seeds, fried garlic, tomatoes, and chilies, creating an explosion of textures and tastes. It's a true representation of Burmese innovation and an unforgettable experience for the palate.
Burmese curries, unlike their Indian or Thai counterparts, are generally milder and more aromatic, often featuring a base of onions, ginger, garlic, and turmeric. They can be made with various proteins like chicken, pork, fish, or even lentils, always served with steaming rice and an assortment of side dishes.
Street food plays a significant role in Burmese culinary culture, with vendors offering a tempting array of snacks and quick meals. From crispy samosas and spring rolls to savory pancakes and sweet sticky rice desserts, there's always something new to discover around every corner.
Exploring Burmese cuisine is an adventure for the senses, a chance to delve into a flavorful world that is both comforting and exciting. It's a testament to the country's vibrant culture and a delightful experience for any food enthusiast.
