You may remember my post a few weeks ago about my favourite hen along with 12 others being killed by a weasel and how coincidentally I had saved 5 of her eggs.
The day she was killed I set all 5 under my broody Brahama momma Calypso, to see if she’d hatch them.
21 days exactly and we have one of Olive’s chicks!! The remaining ones are pipping and should come within the day.

Please pray they aren’t all roosters. I could use a little boost after losing both my favourite hen Olive and my favourite older Duck Peeps, who died naturally last week.

Call it coincidence or intuition, but I’ve been saving the speckled green eggs from my favourite hen to set under a broody momma.

This morning I found her and 2 others dead from some kind of altercation that happened inside their chicken run.
While I can’t see a sign of a predator, I won’t rule it out.

Unfortunately it’s a part of having animals. It’s never easy to loose them, especially the favourites, and I’m just thankful that I still have 5 of Olive’s eggs to hatch out so her lineage continues.
