A great looking calf here posted last week by the folks at Drumcorn Angus. They have a small select herd of registered Aberdeen Angus cattle, in Northern Ireland. They wrote to us that they've been using the QuietWean method for several years now.

All quiet on the western front…
Weaning week here with QuietWean again doing the business to help keep noise and stress levels to a minimum
[In fairness they do work better outside with no devices lost when weaning at grass 🙈]
Weaning this year about 60 days later than normal (around 250 days) so it’ll be interesting to see the effect on calf performance when we weigh next week and on cow condition at calving in April /May

We utilize QuietWean nose tags for weaning. This steer is a little frustrated, but he and the cow are calm and he can continue to graze. These don't hurt the cow or calf. We will remove the tag In 7-10 days and separate him from the cow and there is no bawling or fence walking. Best way to wean!

Good luck to Charcoal Creek Cattle Company (Falkland, BC, Canada), trying for the very first time! Our suggestion? Put science on your side and use as directed (remove flaps after 4 to 7 days). Hope we get an update about how things go!

Yesterday was weaning, weighing and worming. Trying a new approach this year with these QuietWean nose flaps. A special thanks to 43 cow for weaning an 830 lb heifer calf

Spring Valley Farms in Lutts, Tennessee, USA, have been using for 15 years, and by the comments on this post, their customers really appreciate it!

Yesterday was calf weaning day at Spring Valley Farms. It is time for the January and February born calves to be on their own and their mothers to rest and recover for their next calf.
We use a device named ‘QuietWean’ that the calves wear in their nose to prevent them from nursing. The weaners are painless and can be washed in the laundry with our farm clothes and reused. Normally we leave them in for 7-10 days. Most cattlemen separate the calves from their mothers and let them bawl and walk the fences for several days. This method stresses the claves and moms resulting in weight loss and possible respiratory issues. The calves with quiet weaners are left with their mothers, graze and sleep near their mothers with no stress.
Most of our steer calves will be retained and grazed and/or fed out for our beef customers and the heifers will go back in to our herds or sold for replacement females for other herds.
