Directions:
-Cut fruit
-Preheat oven to 375
-Cook apples and plums over the stove on medium heat until it is soft (add monk fruit for sweetness)

A “key” recommendation of Diabetes Canada is to substitute high glycemic with low glycemic foods to reduce A1C and to reduce the consumption of “sugar alcohols” which are used in most low carb bars.

The glycemic index (GI) is a scale from 1–100, ranks are given according to the food's effect on your blood sugar levels (the lower, the slower, the better). Low GI foods score under 55 and high GI foods will have a score of 70 and beyond. For reference, SoLo bars rank between 22-41 on the GI scale, making them VERY low. 👌🏼

Eating high glycemic index foods can elevate hormones that increase the activity of oil glands in the skin, contributing to the formation of acne. While, low glycemic foods eliminate the spike in blood sugar, that can cause inflammation and acne flare-ups.

Still skeptical?

A study done by The American Academy of Dermatology:
-2,258 patients were placed on a low-glycemic diet so that they could lose weight. This diet also reduced their acne, with 87% of patients saying they had less acne, and 91% saying they needed less acne medication.

-Brisbane dermatologist and All About Acne member, Dr Brian De’Ambrosis (https://www.acne.org.au/about-us#ourteam) said many dermatologists will now recommend a low GI diet in conjunction with medical treatments to improve acne. “For doctors, it is all about the evidence and a number of studies demonstrate the value of low GI diets,” he added.

The “Diogenes” study is a large European trial, involving eight countries, designed to discover which diet is best for preventing weight regain after weight loss.

Researchers assigned participants to 4 types of diets with varying levels of protein and either high or low glycemic index carbohydrates. The diet that was most effective at preventing weight re-gain was the low- glycemic with slightly higher protein content (mix of carbs and protein in a 2:1 ratio - THE SOLO SCIENTIFIC FORMULATION). Participants on this diet not only kept the weight off during the six months of the study, but they also continued to lose weight afterwards.

Also, consuming low- glycemic foods and sufficient protein helps to keep blood sugar levels in a narrow range, preventing the spike, crash and crave cycle that drives overeating and fat storage.

The proof is in the pudding. The combination of a low glycemic index diet with more protein doesn’t fight biology: it works with it.

Spike, Crash and Crave – No More!
🤩🕺🏼🔥

The "spike, crash and crave cycle” is driving the interlinked epidemics of obesity, diabetes and the energy shortfall. This blood sugar roller coaster evolved as a metabolic survival mechanism that helped our prehistoric ancestors survive periods of starvation, but is now compromising our health and driving Diabesity.

Evolutionary Mismatch:
Diabesity is the result of a disconnect and mismatch between our prehistoric body design that evolved in a hunter-gatherer environment, and the modern diet and sedentary lifestyle.
Our ancestors didn’t hunt in stores, nor did they consume highly-refined carbohydrates. They were physically active in pursuing their food and consumed slow-release carbs from high-fiber sources (bark, roots, unripened fruits and vegetables) that take the entire small intestine to be digested and assimilated, raising blood sugar levels slowly (low Glycemic Index). This is in contrast to the highly-refined carbs found in most processed foods/beverages that are easily digested, raising blood sugar levels rapidly (high Glycemic Index).

Just Don’t Spike:
High Glycemic Index, fast-releasing carbs “spike" blood sugar levels which triggers the pancreas to flood the blood stream with the master fat-storage hormone insulin, taking too much sugar out of the blood ("the crash”). Hunting hormones are released (adrenaline, testosterone, cortisol) to search out more carbs to raise blood sugar back up (“the crave”).
High glycemic foods perpetuate this vicious cycle, taxing the pancreas for more and more insulin to store more and more fat, for starvation times that never come. Ironically the process that helped our ancestors survive is now a slippery slope to Diabesity and related conditions (insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and forms of cancer).

The Slow-Carb Solution:
Carbs are the body’s preferred source of energy, not fat or protein. All carbs (sugar, starch) are converted to glucose. The solution is not to eliminate or reduce carbs but rather to fill up your tank with slow release (low Glycemic) carbs that trickle energy into the blood stream and don’t trigger the blood sugar roller coaster.

Step 1: CHANGE YOUR MINDSET
For optimal nutrition, performance and healthy living, we need to look at food differently. We need to consider the blood sugar impact, as well as the nutrient content.
