Exactly one month ago (June 30th), I became aware of the plight of a space that inspired me with its potential to bridge relationships between the Host nations members and their guests in the Urban Indigenous communities.
From the first Rent Party, organized in less then 30 hours, a call went out to my dear ones, who showed upโฆ for an ask to support a Vision, a beautiful space, and a Woman Ta7talรญya Michelle Nahanee who started this endeavour to open Salish Circle facilitation & event space (early this year) on her own and in her own territory.
A generous offer was made to me, that if I could succeed to relaunch the space, that it can be taken over to keep building its momentum. It quickly evolved into a collaborative effort, and a kickass โSisterโ collective was formed Sagastas Wuttunee, Rose Stiffarm, Marissa Nahanee, Maritza Louis, Mandy Nahanee.
We planned a handful of events, and witnessed in real time what a high ranking vibe it is to bring โhealers, creatives, and collaboratorsโ together. To be a safe space, and share it with our abundantly gifted and diverse community.
Without the generosity of everyone that came together we couldnโt have achieved the base operating cost of rent within 15 days. Without the foundation that was built, we couldnโt have offered the space for the many collaborators who were inspiring us to strive to keep it open.
Without permission to rent out, or to follow through with events planned, we couldnโt come up with the full rent for August. That space will close, and the Salish Circle brand will stay with its creator Michelle Nahanee.
