What’s in season at the farmers market this fall 🍂

If you are heading to your local market this time of year, here are some of the seasonal favourites to look for:

🍄 Mushrooms: A great addition to pastas, soups, risottos, and pretty much any cozy fall meal.
🥕 Root vegetables: Carrots, potatoes, and beets are at their best in fall and are incredibly versatile. Roast them, add them to salads, or turn them into a hearty side dish.
🍎 Apples: Peak apple season means lots of local varieties to choose from, whether you’re looking for a crisp snacking apple or one that’s perfect for baking.
🎃 Pumpkins and winter squash: These are perfect for soups, roasting, baking, and cozy fall dinners. Look for varieties like delicata, butternut, kabocha, and acorn squash.
🍅 Late-season tomatoes: You can still find beautiful local tomatoes as the season winds down, so enjoy them while they last!
🌿Herbs: Heartier and more pungent herbs like thyme, sage and rosemary are staples for fall and Thanksgiving cooking.
🌸 Dahlias and fall flowers: Don’t forget to check the flower stalls, too. A bunch of locally grown dahlias might be the easiest way to bring a little fall beauty home.

The best thing about shopping seasonally is that it gives you a reason to cook with ingredients you might otherwise overlook…and the farmers market is the perfect place to discover them!

A fall romance 🍂☕️📖 This season, I am leaning into the slower, softer side of autumn and finding a little romance in the everyday.

For the next few weeks, I will be sharing my favourite ways to make fall feel a little more beautiful and a lot more intentional, from seasonal recipes, hosting ideas and little ways to enjoy this gorgeous season in Vancouver.
