The chicken and turkey hatching project has been fun.
We learned a lot about selecting eggs, incubating, fertility and hatching rates, care for baby chicks and finding new homes for them.
Even though the journey was bumpy, their chirps turned out to be very southing for the nervous system))

Conclusion: We are definitely hooked and will continue to hatch more birds for our hobby farm.

It’s a special feeling knowing that the animals you cherished from their first day will keep receiving the love and care that they deserve.

Spring beginnings at Hopstead Rabbitry & Poultry

Today we gently opened the soft fur nest to check on 10 tiny newborn kits.
So small. So fragile. So full of promise.

Mama wraps them in her own fur to keep them warm. It’s their very first blanket, their first feeling of safety.

Born with eyes closed and completely dependent on her, they trust the world without even seeing it yet.

In just days, they’ll grow fur. Soon, their eyes will open. And little by little, life will unfold.

There is something sacred about witnessing the very beginning.

It’s that time of the year when we can’t wait to get outside for the spring chores.

Our chickens blessed us with amazing egg production and we had the help and encouragement of very knowledgeable neighbors and customers. They educated us on how to sort suitable eggs for hatching and much more.

This gave us confidence to buy an incubator and hatch our own chicks as well as sell the extras.🐣 🐣 🐣

The demand for pure bread Rhode Island Red fertilized eggs in the area was unexpected, so it looks like we are expanding our HopStead this spring!
