As the bull's deal with surging hormones, breeding cows, defending harems & keeping rivals at bay, they don't eat, drink or rest enough, causing significant weight loss. After rut, our breeders are put into strict rest & recovery mode so they can gain weight before the worst of winter kicks in.
Wild bulls aren't so lucky, and some won't recover enough to survive a harsh winter.
