Yesterday’s harvest consisted of 30 chickens. They were 9 weeks old to the day. Most were mid 5lb range. The largest was 6.3 lbs and one smaller one was 3.9 lbs - it had a leg injury so was dispatched smaller. Total weight harvested was 144lbs
One had mild pericarditis ( fluid around the heart ). All others had normal well sized hearts. All livers were firm and well coloured indicating good health!
I did dispatch two FTT birds ( failure to thrive ) - it’s possible they were just smaller and due to the large flock were not getting enough access to feed. They were undersized and struggling in the group so they were fed to the cats/dogs. Organs all appeared healthy but not really worth putting in my freezer. With the 30 largest in the freezer the smaller birds will have easier access to food.
Very happy with how they look! In another week and a half or so I will do it all again! lol
