Nigeria secured third place at the Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Egypt 4–2 on penalties following a goalless draw at full time.

The playoff match ended 0–0 after regulation, forcing a penalty shootout in which the Super Eagles showed greater composure. Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, Moses Simon and Akor Adams all converted their spot-kicks for Nigeria.

Egypt missed two penalties, including efforts from Omar Marmoush and captain Mohamed Salah, while only Mahmoud Saber and Ramy Rabia found the net for the Pharaohs.

Nigeria, who kicked first in the shootout, sealed the victory to finish the tournament in third place, ending their AFCON campaign on a high note.
