In this season of work travel to China, I've gotten a little more familiar with the spaces but a little more homesick at the same time. Glad to have Shanghai style wantons on the breakfast menu on this last day of the trip and what impressed was the broth, made simply with seaweed, soy and dried shrimps.

A much recommended item on any spring day!

It was too early for breakfast but we can't say no to wanton. Uncle Five does wanton mee Malaysian style, so our Singaporean taste buds didn't quite wake to the idea of puffy fried ones. But the soup and boiled wantons were on-point.

Not the usual pitstop for roadtrippers but definitely worth beating the checkpoint crowd for this.

Some work trips are made for spending time alone - to think, to breathe and to eat. And Cebu is great for that.

They have an interesting fascination with Hong Kong and Macau and it shows - this is the 4th Chinese restaurant I found in the same SM and their wantons are all good.

Majestic does it with a hargow filling. Works real good with the freshly boiled fish broth. And I'm not alone in saying that because it was 5pm and the place was packed with high-tea-ers and early dinner patrons.

Adding this to the list of places to go when (alone) in the port city.

Was honoured with an invite to dine by the pool at the Tanglin Club, the oldest country club in Singapore. They pay great attention to their food; which essentially mean we've got to try the wantons.

The filling was a mince & shrimp paste mix that was properly seasoned. They ain't stingy with the pepper and that really helped the shrimp flavour stand out. The wrap was made with precision to be thick enough together, even in soup but thin enough to melt in your mouth.

It came with the egg noodles as a side to the roast platter but they stood out in a good way. Hits all the right buttons.

Not the sort of place that I can bring myself anytime but if I get invited again, I'll definitely order this. And as a full portion, instead of a side.

It was a random thought over karaoke that we do a day trip to Batam so we're here at on a Saturday afternoon; right after massage and nails, but too early to hit the beach clubs.

The pangsit (indonesian term for dumplings and wantons) were on-pointe with fresh whole prawns and broth infused with loads of dried flounder flavour. Very traditional of them.

End note: get their deep fried prawn toast balls too. Then hit with their house blend chili sauce. You won't regret it. 😋
