Have you ever tried Colombian wine?
Well is really a challenge to find one!
Colombian wine is produced in very small quantities in the departments of Boyaca, Antioquia Valle del Cauca, but it serves more for the production of spirit like the local "aguardiente".
The production of wine in Colombia has always been very complicate due to climatic factors such as high relative humidity and lack of clear seasons.
Additionally the local consumption of wine is very low and limited to cheap imported Argentinian and Chilean wines.
Despite all we would like to honour the few brave Colombian producers that stubbornly pursuit their dream to improve the quality of their wines.

Couple of days ago we discovered this small Pearl in Tbilisi, .
What is special about this place?
Everything!
You immediately feel like home, a cosy familiar home. And you didn’t try the food yet! Our first time, we had a late breakfast, but the second time we wanted a taste of those nice bottles you can see displayed everywhere. And we weren’t disappointed 🎈
We tried an amber wine (as they call it in Georgia), a white dry and two semi-sweet red.
They gave us infos about each wine, while we eat some special bruschette.
What else we could ask?
Visit this place in Tbilisi and you won’t regret it!

The Rabbit symbolise prosperity, abundance, good luck and cleverness in most of the cultures. It is also symbol of springtime and of life renewal, but it's consider a trickster animal by Native Americans. Although it is a defenseless and harmless animal, with many predators on its tail, it manages successfully to avoid danger thanks to its speed and intelligent nature. Rabbits remind us of our vulnerability and push us to find the strength within ourselves.
There is no a magician to hold the hat but a tricky white rabbit and in the hat the surprise is the wine. This is reppresented in the front label of a magnificent vermentino from Audarya winery.
Audarya means nobility of the soul in an ancient oriental language.

Dragon is a creature we can find in folklore in many different cultures, from the extreme Eastern to the Western. In the book ‘An Instinct for Dragons’, by University of Central Florida anthropologist David E. Jones, he seeks to explain the universality of dragon images in the folklore of human societies.

In brief, the natural fear for snakes (39% of people are afraid of these creatures) would lead our ancestors to create scary stories about them. Some other theories speak about giant crocodiles that were roaming before on the face of Earth; maybe some survived dinosaurs.

In general, the main characteristics of a dragon are brutal force (and in some cultures, the possibility to fly and breath fire) and prodigious intelligence.

Why we’re speaking about a dragon on a page dedicated to wines?

This month, we’re speaking about animals related to wine (real or mythological). We discovered that, besides few whiskies and cognac brands, dragons are used nowadays for a few wine labels, from Europe to the US.
Because, as a universal myth, a dragon will always carry its powerful meaning.

You can ride in a old train from communist era and drink champagne? Yes!
Well… but what is considered to be champagne in Russia? So, if you’re not aware of what in France is called “The Champagne war”, please sit tight.
Schampanakoye (шампанское) is the Russian word to say in general “sparkling wine”. On July 2nd, a new law requires French champagne makers to add a “sparkling wine” reference to the back of their bottles sold in Russia.
What is the problem?
Ask to the French champagne industry, that for generations had the name champagne referred only to the one produced in the region carrying the same name.

Well, war or not, we enjoyed our sparkling wine, sitting in an old train in Karelia 😎

Following with our animals and wine circle of stories today we want to talk about the Peregrinus Falcon a charismatic and iconic animal that always had special relationship with the man. The ancient Egyptians used to represent the gods Horus and Ra with the symbol of the falcon, symbolising the sky and the sun. While for the ancient Greeks it was the messenger of Apollo. Among the native Americans was considered the noble totemic animal.
In the late Middle Ages the western European nobility used falcons for hunting and considered it a royal bird.
The Queen of Arborea (Sardinia) Eleonora d'Arborea (1347-1403 A.D.) was the first in Europe to decree the protection of falcons in a written constitution. (Carta de Logu art. 87 -de Astores). To her is dedicated the Falcon Eleanora, present in the island of Sardinia.
The peregrine Falcon is also the national animal of the United Arab Emirates and used in official documents, seals, flags and coins.
It's consider the fastest bird in the world (389km/h), known for its strong hunting ability has been utilised for centuries by men in falconry.
The falcon has been also used in agriculture in place of pesticides to hunt other little birds gluttonous of fruits.

The first harvest in 1971 was almost a disaster with most of the grape either destroyed by rot or eaten by birds.
In order to protect the grapes from bird damage falconry was attempted.
Unfortunately this was unsuccessful, at the first attempting the falcon was released to circle around the wineyard but it disappears in the near forests and never return back.

This month with Vinoè webare going to explore the relationship between animals and wine. We start with a mithological animal, the unicorn.
Here you can see it in a 16th century tapestry from Paris, called The lady and the unicorn.
The unicorn appeared in artworks from Mesopotamia to ancient India and China and has been described by the Greek historian Ctesias on 400 BCE as “the size of a horse (…) and on its forehead was a cubit-long horn coloured red at the pointed tip, black in the middle, and white at the base”.
Probably referring to the Indian rhinoceros, the unicorn is also a symbol of purity, innocence and power in Celtic mythology. For this reason, it’s the official national animal of Scotland unicorn 🦄
In the last years, with “unicorn wine” people referred to the kind of wine everyone hope to see and rarely do. A rare, beautiful, legendary wine.

is a small jewel in the centre of Saint Petersburg. You can enjoy Saint Isaac’s Cathedral on the background, while drinking good wine and eating good quality food.
