Rasthal literary means – a plate (Thal) full of tastes (Rasas). Together, My parents taught me to always add more elements, elements of love and care.

Rasthal represents a typical Indian household meal balanced with these 6 tastes – Sweet, Sours, Salty, Pungent, Bitter and Astringent. In culturally diverse city of Vadodara, Gujarat, I grew up seeing my mother and grandmother cooking and serving we 5 siblings at home and few more via their catering services. My passion and knowledge of traditional food comes from them. Their recipes carried blend

of motherly traditions and experiments. ‘’Le chakh’’ – ‘’Taste it’’ – followed by how it is prepared – were best learnings I had from my mother and grandmother. In our home, kitchen was an immediate clinic. Headache, cramps or low mood, our grandmother always had something to offer from pre-industry recipes. During celebrations, even small, food continuously served as bond keeping our family traditional intact across generations. The kitchen has been my loved place with full of stories. Via Rasthal, I try to bring our traditional homely recipes to you. Spices are basic but diverse. Cooking is straightforward and fun as there no pressure to ‘’decorate’’ the plate but make it fulfilling. Together with culture of using local ingredients, I try to keep our heritage of seasonal cooking accessible. Seasonal recipes like ‘’Undhiyu’’ during Uttarayan or ‘’Ghughara-Mathia’’ on Diwali & Thepla/Handvo any day with authentic ingredients like millets & pulses shall introduce Indian food beyond curry and rice. I want to help community to celebrate festivals with best traditional food missed at home in Germany away from home in India. Most importantly, I try to bring food to you which I would love my family to eat, Homely-Fresh-Healthy. Yours, Kina Patel

Dear All,

It is almost 3 years since I started my Indian Rasthal journey. I am glad to have your continuous support, encouragement and guidance. Thank you very much for all the love and your trust in me . 🙏🙏 🙏

I have been reviewing my capacity and how best to serve you with the same quality and care you expect from me. After much thought, I have decided to focus my energy on Catering and Festival Specials, where I can bring you the most value and unique experience.

This means we will pause the Weekly Menu going forward, so I can dedicate myself fully to the other two services and keep the quality consistently high.

This is really difficult decision for me and I am sure that you will understands my constraints.

I plan to communicate festival specially offers via this WhatsApp group, Indian Rasthal page. For those who prefer to be informed via email, please drop me a note via private message or a test mail on [email protected].

I am excited for what’s ahead and look forward to making your occasions and celebrations even more special 🎉.

Dear all, First of all, thank you very much for your trust and support in the first half of 2025.

As school vacation starts this week, I pause for needed mid year rest. My kitchen and service will resume from 15th August 2025. Have great relaxing summer to all. Thank you 🙏
