Happy Vishu (New Year) to everyone celebrating!

The first thing you see on Vishu morning matters.

The Vishu Kani — a display of golden Kani Konna flowers, raw rice, fresh vegetables, fruits, betel leaves, a holy text, coins, and a lit lamp. All placed around a mirror in a metal vessel.

Why a mirror? So the first sight of the new year reflects abundance back at you. What you see first, you carry all year.
Your eyes are covered as you're led to the Kani. Then, you open them.

That first glimpse. That golden light. That carefully arranged blessing family stayed up to create for you.

That is Vishu Kani. 🪔

Not decoration. An intention. A mother's prayer that her family sees only goodness in the year ahead.
On April 18th, we celebrate Vishu at our table in Dresden.

Happy Varusha Pirappu to everyone celebrating!
Tamil New Year isn't just a date on a calendar.

Our ancestors didn't flip a page to mark the new year. They watched the sky.
When the Sun leaves Pisces and enters Aries (Mesha Raasi), that moment of cosmic transition is the new year. Not midnight. Not a number.

The Sun itself announcing a new beginning.

It's called Varusha Pirappu. Varusham = year. Pirappu = birth.

This is why the date changes every year. Because the Sun moves on its own time — not ours.

Our ancestors understood something most of us have forgotten — that we are part of nature's rhythm, not separate from it.

6 strangers walked into Saree Soirée on Women's Day.🎉

Few they didn't know each other.
Few came with their friends. 👭
They didn't know if they'd fit in.
Some had never worn a saree before.🥻

Three hours later:

Stories that made everyone strong, bold & kind were shared.🤗
Old Indian games played🤪
Plans for coffee were made.☕️
