In the Black Forest, dedication is a given. Busy hands, busy minds. Which is precisely why the days between Christmas and New Year are treated with a certain reverence.

Twixmas, as the English like to call it – those quiet days betwixt the celebrations, when the calendar loosens its grip and time stretches a little. Around here, that often means pulling on a coat, stepping outside and letting a short walk turn into something longer. Through spruce trees and mossy paths. No rush. No agenda. Just movement, fresh air and the luxury of nowhere else to be.

It’s a pause without standing still. Rest disguised as ritual. And if the day allows for it, finished the right way — with a glass of something distilled by those same busy hands, now taking their own moment to slow down.

At the Wild Monkey Distillery, we call that Twixmas, well spent.

Rare but true…

The artist behind the spectacle of colour in the salt marshes of the Camargue region in the south of France, where our 48th ingredient for this year’s MONKEY 47 Distiller’s Cut — Fleur de Sel — is harvested, isn’t the salt itself but a microscopic alga called Dunaliella salina. Exposed to high concentrations of salt and sunlight, it produces beta carotene, tinting the marshes — and even flamingos — in shades of pink, purple, and red. 🌊🦩

Our friend turned the MONKEY 47 Distiller's Cut 2025: Fleur de Sel into something both daring and delightful — blending Gewürztraminer, German Vermouth, Makrut and a hint of burnt lemon oil.

A tribute to salt not just as a seasoning, but as an idea: subtle, essential and utterly transformative. From the Camargue’s pale-pink marshes to the glass, one sip and the Schwarzwald meets the sea 🌊

The MONKEY 47 Distiller’s Cut 2025 made its most peculiar debut, bearing the rare treasure of Fleur de Sel — delicate sea salt crystals from the south of France. Admired, discussed, and (most importantly) thoroughly savoured.

Delicate sea salt crystals, formed by sun and wind in the south of France (the Camargue, to be precise) are the Species Rara of this year’s MONKEY 47 Distiller’s Cut: Fleur de Sel.

To collect the Camargue’s white gold, seawater is directed through a network of channels and pools to the salt marshes of yore. The wind (known as the mistral) and sun evaporate 90 per cent of the fresh water until the salt crystals — Fleur de Sel — begin to form. Salt farmers, known as the “Camargue Cowboys,” then harvest them using a long-handled skimming tool called a “lousse”.

Our Founder, Alexander Stein, traded the Black Forest for Aigues-Mortes, joining Luc Vernes and his salt cowboys on the quest for this year’s Species Rara. A warm-hearted thank you to Luc and his posse in Aigues-Mortes. What a ride! 🤍

The glistening pale-pink salt marshes of the French Camargue, home to this year’s Distiller’s Cut Species Rara: Fleur de Sel - delicate sea salt crystals, have found their way onto our MONKEY 47 Distiller’s Cut 2025 bottle. True to our oft-cited eye for detail, the tie-dye label shimmers in an iridescent play of colour, and one can almost feel the southern sun of France just by looking at it. ☀️ Sel à vie!

Have you spotted Lisbon’s iconic Tram No. 28 in its most wunderbar attire yet?

Built in 1903 and now proudly dressed in MONKEY 47 livery, this piece of mobile heritage is anything but ordinary. Much like our gin.

Would you believe that, thanks to the uniquely Lisboetan flair for laying cobblestones more with poetic licence than engineering precision, each tram wheel wears itself into its own unique shape? The result? Every single wheelset must be carefully adjusted by hand, individually, like a bespoke pair of shoes for each carriage.

Eccentric? Certainly. Meticulously crafted? Without a doubt.
Sounds familiar? We thought so too.
